Guest destinationoz
Hi all ACT PIO-ers! I know there's plenty of us still left back here while JacquiB, Samfire and Catherine and Rob are starting their new lives in canberra ! (Good on you all - hope you're having a top time and look forward to all your news ... we'll need you all to keep our dream alive for a little while now!!) For us left here and now looking like it will be another 3 years - PLEASE MAKE A STAND!!! I wrote to Senator Evans yesterday to raise my concerns on the way the new direction has been handled and pointed out how it was unethical and wrong to be asked by DIAC to obtain medicals and police checks only to find a few days later everything had changed and as the checks are only valid for one year etc etc ... I copied the letter to the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister and also copied in the ACT SS people for information - they seemed pleased that people are making a stand - If you are close to getting your visa and this has affected you - I would urge you to write and raise your concerns (in an unemtional/unpersonalised way!!!) - the more this point is raised - the better .... I have also raised my concerns with the Australian Govt Ombudsman too. I'm sure there will be people ready to 'put me down' for this thread but personally I don't believe in lying down and being walked all over - this is my money and my family life they are playing with ... Happy days!

RobandCatherine
Hi destinationoz, We were shocked by the changes ourselves & have been keeping a low profile as we were so lucky to get visas in time & just feel so badly for those of you that missed out. Good luck with your applications, we hope to get in to Canberra in Febuary after having a bit of a holiday during January. Guest destinationoz
You were lucky!! but be proud and enjoy it all the way - we're going to need to rely on you (and samfire, jacquib, peter and family - and later squem!) to keep our dream alive while we're still here!! You'll all be seasoned canberreans by the time we get there - if we get there ... Probably won't be on here much from now on (it's too hard!!) so ... Enjoy your party, melbourne trip and arrival in canberra - no doubt we'll think of you on boxing day!!

MikeW
I'm confused - what's the issue? We have got out SS, but now need to send off for the actual visa. Have they stopped issuing the visas to people who have already been told 'yes' for SS? Any info would be appreciated... Thanks.
MikeW
Just been reading the new changes thread - very bad news. Still confused as too how long it will take. Will call our agent tomorrow.
Guest Wannabeoz
Does anyone know if the ACT are lobbying federal government about the changes, or what they think of them? I can't see how if they have given us state sponsorship because they need our skills they can then wait three years until people move over! Any views appreciated. Guest ChrisW
Hi I am new to the forum. My Hubby is a member. We received state sponsorship last month for Canberra and obviously are bitterly disappointed at the changes made. What we are wondering is, does anyone know once you have the state sponsorship if you still go on to apply for a visa - even though you may not get it until 2012 does the state sponsorship still stand seeing as you are only given three months to apply for the visa? Or will we lose this after 3 months of date of offer. Is it worth us paying out another £1,300 ish to apply for the Visa? Our agent reckons we apply and see what happens. Any advice welcome? Thanks
Guest destinationoz
Hiya Chris and partner! I asked this question to ACT and was informed that the 3 months deadline is to apply for your visa and then once your visa application is in - it lasts until you get your visa - however we are further on and had already applied and been told to get meds and police checks done so its slightly different for us as we had already spent the £1,300 - I would suggest you email ACT directly and ask the question considering the new direction - they are usually very good at getting back to you with personalised advice. Good Luck!

Guest ChrisW
Hi destinationoz thanks very much for you advice. Think we have decided to put the visa app in anyway and just wait and see what happens, feel it's our only chance. Thanks again.

Guest destinationoz
Thank you very much Jacqui and Peter for your messages and thoughts - it is extremely frustrating being so close to getting our visa and now this ... our status on DIAC now shows everything to "met" so we'll have to see if that stays there for the next 3 years!!! I am gutted but need to stay positive and believe that we will get to Canberra one day in the future .... in the meantime - please help keep our dream alive and keep us posted about what its like there - all the details!!!! I look forward to hearing from you and wish you lots of luck and fun on your new adventures of life in Oz! Safe journey Peter Cheers!
