Guest Katiedanvers177
Hi All, I am having a major dilemma that hopefully someone out there can help me with. Ok, I am a Brit but have lived in Oz for 4years and have been a permanent resident for 2. In sept we went back to UK to get married (which was wonderful!!) but now back in Oz and trying to change my name WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!! Nowhere will accept my British marriage certificate and Births, Deaths and Marriages advised I have to be a resident for 3 years before I can legally change my name. Does anyone now an easy way of Australia recognising my new name?! If I change my UK passport to my new name, will Oz accept this, even though it will have a UK address on it? I am stuck as to what to do, surely it can't be that hard! We even considered getting married again in Oz to get an Australian wedding certificate until we found out it was actually illegal! Any thoughts or advice would be greatly apppreciated Katie

How strange for you? maybe someone can come up with a solution for you:wubclub: ss x
Happy Lass
Hi Katie, I don't know if you still check the forum but thought it worth posting anyway just in case you do pop back. I wonder if you have been talking to people who thought you were applying for a change of name as in the kind that anyone can do? That process has the waiting period you describe whereas getting married should not and is just a matter of bringing your marriage certificate in with you (or posting it) when you advise them of your new name. Your passport is one of the chief pieces of identity a person can have so changing your name on your passport should make this even easier. Anyway, do let us know how you got on.
