Guest jason brickie
Hi all depends on what visa you go on, if its a PR visa then you do not pay school fees.

Guest The Pom Queen
In Victoria you only pay if you are on a student visa. However, there are still school fees to pay and that is for everyone even if you are Australian. These vary dramatically between schools from $80 - $500 plus. Although some of these fees are voluntary and you DO NOT need to pay these, there was an article in the newspaper a couple of years ago where schools were not informing parents that they did not have to pay all the fees and there was an uproar. As well as the school fees you will have uniform, unfortunately this is not cheap and most of the tops and jumpers are branded so you have to buy them from the uniform shop. You also have schools books to buy (usually secondary school only) which varies again in different schools so far in Secondary school my son has only needed an atlas and a bible and the school rent the others out at $120 per student per year. Some schools expect you to pay for them all yourself up front. You also have all the excercise books, pens, pencils, etc. There are many ways to keep costs down, like buying second hand uniform, only paying school fees that are compulsary, buying 2nd hand books (usually from students leaving) and excercise books etc you can buy them really cheap from places like KMart and Big W. Hope this helps Kate
scousers
Hi, It really depends on what sort of school you want, if your kids go to state school then you only have to pay for uniform, books and a small fee. If they go private then obviously it is much more expenive although much cheaper than the UK. But i have found that the state school fees are usually only a couple of hundred dollars a year.
