Guest AlexL
Hi, Im just starting my 176 West Australia state sponsered Visa and just need to know a couple of things.... The main one is do you have to wait until the state sponsership is granted before starting/lodging the visa application? i expect i do have to wait but just want to confirm... Second thing is that im currently in aus on a 457 visa and i know the 176 is an offshore visa, so would i have to leave aus to get the visa granted? ...and last of all we have had a baby sine being in australia,- shes now 3 months old, and i have just realised she doesnt have a visa! i have sorted out applying for her passport but will i have to lodge a visa application to add her to my 457? Thanks Alex.
Guest guest17301
Hi Alex, We are in the same boat as you. As far as I know we have to leave for around a week just prior to the visa grant. As for the other questions I look forward to the replies. Good luck mate, let me know how you get on Fiona
Guest Gollywobbler
Hi Alex Welcome to Poms in Oz. A-Z Occupations List - Australian Skills Recognition Information Choosing from the list above, what is your occupation, please? The reason I ask is because I want to know whether your current occupation is on the MODL and, if so, whether it is likely to remain on the MODL? WA are currently taking about 4 months to process applications for State sponsorship. Meanwhile DIAC have said that they intend to review the MODL "Later in 2009" but they have not been more specific than this. Being on the MODL is potentially worth 15 points. My instinct is to ask someone like you to tot up your points total for a subclass 175 visa: Skilled – Independent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 175) If you can, I reckon it is worth applying for an sc 175 visa to begin with just in case the MODL (if applicable) moves against you. If the occupation is on the MODL on the day when you apply for your visa then you will get the MODL points even if your occupation has been removed from the MODL by the time that a decision is made. It costs nothing and requires no extra form filling in order to switch from an sc 175 to an sc 176 once you get the State sponsorship so I'd be inclined to think about submitting an sc 175 application to start with if you are eligible for both visas and if the MODL points are relevant to you. Guest AlexL
Hi Gill, Im a Architectural Draftsman, which comes under: Architectural Associate 3121-13 Unfortunatly this is not listed on the MODL and is also only worth 40 points... Thats why im applying for the 176 instead of the 175 On the 175 i get 95 points so with state sponsership i get 105 points on the 176 - thats not including IELTS thing for extra points... always a possibility if more are required! Looks like we'll have to take a holiday to bali then to get the visa :spinny: what a shame! So from what your saying you do have to wait to lodge the application with immi? Thanks Alex. Guest D4nnyB0y
Hi Alex. My advice would be to get the initial application into the system as a 175 if you can obtain the extra points to qualify whilst waiting for the state sponsorship. The cost is exactly the same and it will simply become a 176 application if/when the state sponsorship is granted. Lodging the application in advance of the SS will allow you to collect and submit a lot of the paperwork required in advance, hopefully saving you some time further down the line As for getting the visa, I've been in touch with Bali myself (I'm awaiting my 176 and am in Perth also). I got this from them "Thank you for enquiring with us. Regarding to your email below, you have to lodge your original passport so that the Australian Consulate as a team process could put the label inside your passport. We will give you the copy of your passport attached with the receipt. Hope this information may be useful for you." They have to keep the passports for 3 days apparently, so you are stuck there until the visa's are done basically. What a shame :jiggy:
