Here goes....

 

I'm looking to move over to Australia looking around Surry Hill, Sydney, for a year or two in summer 2010 but may end up trying to stay longer if I really like it. About me - I'm Irish but live in the UK and I'll be 27 at the time of moving over. I currently have an advanced diploma and will have a degree by the time I move. I also will have 10 years experence in civil/transportational engineering.

 

I've just starting looking into everything and was wondering what visa I'd be most suited to? I was thinking of going on a working visa as not sure if I'll be staying past a year or two and going for a permanent visa while over there if I'm liking it. Would this be the best option?

 

Also for a working visa what would total costs be including all checks? I also have Chron's disease which is a medical condition but it doesn't really affect me, will that be an issue?

 

My GF might also be coming with me and she'd have about same details as me except she's from UK and hasn't got Chron's. Would it be an advantage to apply together or is that not needed for a working visa?

 

Sorry if these questions are a bit stupid or have been asked before as I'm just starting to get my head round everything. Cheers for any help :smile:

Please pay attention to Skill level, Qualifications and Assessing authority on your chosen occupation.

It may be worth looking at each state as well to see if your chosen occupation is in demand in that state as this can afford you State sponsorship. This could speed up the whole process for you..

Will I need to have a medical examination?

Health requirements for Australian Working Holiday Visa applicants are assessed at the time of application and will vary depending on the country of passport and travel/residence history. Applicants may be required to undergo a chest x-ray and/or a medical examination as part of their visa application under certain circumstances, as well as to declare their health status on the visa application form. The most frequent situations where a chest x-ray and/or medical examinations may be required are cases where:

 

 

• You have spent more than 3 consecutive months in the last 5 years in a country considered to be of a very high health risk in terms of tuberculosis;
  
• You have been in close contact with a person who has, or has had, active tuberculosis;
  
• You have had a Chest X-ray which showed an abnormality;
  
• You are likely to enter an Australian hospital or other health care facility for any purpose;
  
• You are likely to work in or attend an Australian preschool-aged child care centre (including preschools and creches);
  
• You are likely to require assistance with mobility and/or incur medical costs or require treatment or medical follow up for a particular disease while in Australia.
  

 

Re Crohns mate im sure it would no impact at all on your application.
