Emma78
Chocolate is really expensive here double the price of the uk and it doesn't quite taste the same. Lindt chocolate is popular here which is a good thing! In coles and woolworths you can find cadburys but mainly in big blocks. The thing I find strange is how there is dog meat in the fridge next to joints of beef!
Guest Mandy H
We have been to Perth twice now and have found the food no problem, I agree Cadbury's does not taste the same as in the UK, however there is other chocolate that you cannot get in the UK that was fab eg, Cherry ripe ummmmmmmmmmmmmm delicious. Also Coco pops taste alot better in Perth than in the UK, and chicken parmagiana is my favorite, role on June 24th. Perth here we come Mand

The Bray Family
I have been here 6 weeks and finding the food fine.Bacon is better here not full of water like the uk. Biscuits are not so nice but hey i need to lose some weight. Fruit tastes better here pineapples are fab. Not many cakes to buy in the supermarkets so will have to start baking my own. Thing are different but thats part of moving here trying new a different things. sarah
Guest mcleod275
For those of your in Perth I can highly recommend the Margaret River Chocolate Factory which is on the West Swan Road, near Caversham Wildlife Park. It is not the cheapest chocolate in the world but if you are really craving some proper chocolate that actually melts in your mouth then head to here. We discovered it as part of a wine cruise that we did last year and I had to go back. They have big bowls of buttons of white, milk and dark chocolate for you to taste, if I have a moment of crisis when we get there I know where I will go!!!!:jiggy:
Guest littlesarah
Oddly enough, I'm looking forward to the fact that I'm not so keen on Aussie chocolate - it means I eat less! Once you get into home baking, shop-bought tastes inferior (& it's cheaper to make your own) - a bit of a blessing & a curse for me! S

To me, its like a pizza but instead of a bread base you get a breaded chicken schnitzel. Bliss. As a greedy get, I loved the idea of moving here and getting stuff that I couldn't get in the UK. Like when you go on holiday and they have new crisps and snacks and stuff that you can't get at home. I have to confess, I get a jumbo fruit & nut every week and I can't tell the difference. As for crisps, get some Toobs, they rock. The crisps selection here is great, as are noodles and stuff, much more 'proper' Asian than the UK. There are some packet satay ones which rule. Spring rolls and stuff are better here. In general , I like the food over here, restaurant and supermarket. Bread is better, meat is better. The cost may be another issue but what can you do. I hang around Coles until they wheel out the cheap meat. Just remembered, I hate those red hot dogs over here. Very disappointing. Although, the burgers are spot on. Guest boomerangpommie
I was impressed by the wider range of Cadbury choc bars available in Oz like brazil nut, macademia, etc and I found the fruit and veg actually tastes of something in Australia, here it's all a bit nothing. I also loved some of the cheddar cheese varieties there from Woolworths - cracked pepper, wasabi and chilli, mmmm.... Being on a perpetual diet (when not launching myself at the wide variety of cheese and Cadbury chocolate, off course, lol), I did find it difficult to get some of the foods recommended by Slimming World!!!! Happy Lass
Hmm I haven't seen any Galaxy chocolate in Aust to try. I'm very particular when it comes to chocolate and the one thing I haven't found yet is a specialist chocolatier like you find in the UK and Europe. I don't mind the taste of Australian Cadburys chocolate and hardly noticed a difference in the Dairy Milk, which tastes nice to me. I do like the range they have versus what we get in the UK. I prefer the dark 70% stuff though so I was glad to find that it's easy to get Lindt and Green & Blacks Organic. If you are interested in cooking and like Nigella Lawson's books, I'd definitely recommend taking a look at her Web site where you will find a strong Aussie contingency there. It's brilliant for finding out what's good and what's not when it comes to foodstuffs (there are lots of brands we wouldn't recognise in Aust as well as lots we do); it's also useful for finding out what to substitute for those ingredients that you just can't find. On the subject of cooking, cookbooks often cost a small fortune so if you have a collection of your own, I recommend bringing them with you. The same goes for things like Kenwood and KitchenAid mixers although it's much easier to find those in Aust than it is in England. If you need cookware once you arrive, this is a pretty good site: http://www.kitchenwaredirect.com.au/
Guest Roofer
Hi Emma, I've only been here for a few weeks (Sydney) but already i'm missing English food. Guest jillandsi
Have I read correctly that you can't get gammon in Australia? I wonder why? Pity as I have just found a brilliant crockpot recipe for it. Oh well. We will cope. We're having it for tea tomorrow, got it from a lovely butchers outside the Woolworths at the shops in Currambine.
