Advice on where to live in Gold Coast for young couple?

Recommended Posts

Guest nfowley

Hi

Moving to the Gold Coast area and lookingfor some advice on the best area to live in for a young couple. We like to be near restraunts, bar, shopiing etc, not too isolated as we are used to living in a city. However we do want to live near the beach! Any ideas anyone?

I would look at the southern end of the Gold Coast, much nicer, less crime and not as many tourists in my opinion. The beaches around Kirra, Coolangatta area are beautiful ,there is plenty of shops and quite a few eaterys and restaurants.

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place...

If you get a chance, take it, If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy they just said it would be worth it...

Hiya we are from Glasgow too and live in Central GC now in Ashmore (we have a couple of kids and it is near schools and a taxi ride to surfers) We like the area as it is central. There are loads of nice areas here though, if you want to be central, near the beach, bars etc I would recommend Chevron Island, Broadbeach or the Broadwater. Southern Gold Coast is really nice but it depends on work and it can be quieter for nitelife down there but I do love Burleigh too. Any questions please just ask.

If you want bars, restraunts, clubs and beach then it has to be Surfers Paradise. Rent there for 6 months and if it's too rowdy then move north or south. Main beach has plenty of restraunts but not many bars. Labrador or runaway bay are simular but further north still.

If you want lively then it has to be Surfers and even thats only weekends realy.

I'd say broadbeach for definite and around that area. I'm 24 and recently came back from a month in Oz after looking for places to live and we've decided on that area. It's got some gorgeous restaurants and some plush bars and the casino is there too, very trendy. It's next to the beach and 5 mins drive from Surfers. I like to go out with the best of them but i found surfers can sometimes seem abit like blackpool -but with gorgeous beaches! Hope this helps

I love my new home!!

Cool, my husband really fancies there too, although we have never been there. Do you know is it mostly apartments there or is it reasonable to rent a house there? When are you planning on going?

Hi,

I do not live in Australia, but have just returned from the Gold Coast on holiday. I stayed in a house in Burleigh, we found that any closer than that to Coolangatta, you would spend most of the time hearing and watching the airplanes overhead going to the gold coast airport!! On any of the beaches around Burleigh, you can spot Surfers by the giant tower blocks in the area. However, we went with two young children, if we went alone, we still wouldn't have gone to Surfers, due to the strip clubs/casinos/oriental massage parlours about. We are looking to move to Queensland and much prefered Brisbane than the gold coast, due to way too many tourists in the Burleigh area. This is just our opinion though. Best of luck.

We are just doing skills assessment at the min and then looking to apply for ss straight after. Hopefully will be there at some point next year! If you want something neat the beach they're mainly apartments but if you look abit further back towards carrara/nerang there are some nice houses too at good rental prices. Have a look at http://www.domain.com.au to give you abit of an idea. When are you moving?

I love my new home!!

Hi, we've just had 3 weeks on the gold coast, having stayed with friends in Mermaid Waters. I have to say a few people said that the gold coast was like Blackpool, but nicer, but having lived in blackpool and now live next door to it, I can't agree that its like Blackpool. Yes there are a couple of strips with the usual 'tat' shops, but you get that in any tourist destination. It didn't put me off and we certainly intend to settle there shortly. We'll be looking at Mermaid Beach/Waters, Broadbeach areas - close to the beach/waterways, parks, shops etc.

Living in Benowa, Gold Coast since Feb 2010 and loving it!!!

Thanks for the suggestion, I've had a look at mermaid beach/rental etc and it looks really nice! It's hard trying to decide when you have never been there!

Hi, Broadbeach, Mermaid Beach down to Burleigh Heads, are all good areas to look at. Mostly apartments/unit complexes/townhouses, rental prices will be slightly higher in Broadbeach. Great beaches, huge choice of restaurants/cafes, shopping, entertainment, great place to be for a young couple. Good luck!
