Has anyone done the course can people advise the types companies that you can work in. Im thinking maybe Insurance companies but someone in the field would probably have alot more insight. Any information would be great have looked on Seek etc but want some inside information. Guest proud2beaussie Posted February 14, 2009 Share Posted February 14, 2009 Well that sort of qualification could get you work in just about any field as most large companies in australia have OH & S deparments,you could work for a car manufacturer,an airline,bank just about any field of industry these days is very big on OH & S.and if you have good qualifications then you shouldn't find it difficult to get a good,well paid job. No I'm self employed but I was a senior manager in the hospitality industry for a few years and every large hotel chain in the country employs OH & S specialists to consult them on things like work practices for chefs,room attendants etc. and large manufacturers hire them to ensure that machinery meets safety regulations etc. It really is a multi discipline field and covers just about every industry,even supermarkets have OH & S people to consult them on things like shelf height etc. Edited to add that www.seek.com.au currently has 194 vacancies in the field,and seek is only one of hundreds of agencies Make sure the qualification is recognised by the relevant departments. 1.5 years sounds quite short for an OH&S course,it's generally at least a Bachelor degree.,but depends where you do it. It is a long distanst course which can be done at my own speed and i was hoping to approach a company to see if i could get work exp as not working at the moment as have small children i was thinking of consultancy work so i can work it around the children. Lots of places offering the Diploma but am wondering at what level i can enter the workplace and they say just check out seek so wanted it from the point of view of the employer so looking for someone who has completed the course.
