Guest juju Posted February 4, 2009 Share Posted February 4, 2009 hi my name is julie , i have just moved with my family from Adelaide to maudsland Gold coast a week ago. Been in oz about 18 months. I have a very unhappy 12 year year old daughter called megan who despite a week at park lake school has not had much success with making friends . At the moment she is looking for a one way ticket back to adelaide so i was wondering is there anyone out there with girls of a similar age who would like to get to know Meg. She is a great kid, very sociable, into fashion, music ,dance and all things girlie. come to think of it i am a billy nomates myself at the moment so if anyone wants a cup of tea with me i would be very happy lol. I am 42, a nurse from evesham in worcestershire and into neighbours ( well someone has to be lol), wine and hot chips and not taking life too seriously. anyone in the pac pines , maudsland, park lake area who would like to take pity on us would be gratefully recieved lol, i cant go back to that adelaide heat!!!! look forward to hearing from anyone!!! julie:notworthy: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest whiterosejo Posted February 4, 2009 Share Posted February 4, 2009 Hi Julie I dont know if this will help but when I first moved to Brissy I found it very hard to make friends with people in their 20's as there is a big culture of people keeping their school friends here and I found it hard to integrate, so I scanned the web for some inspiration and found www.getalife.com.au it is a social website for all ages and they plan some pretty good stuff. Might be worth a look. I doubt there will be anything directly for your daughter but you might meet some other parents who can give you some advice and support. I hope this helps. I am a christian and going somewhere where there has been friendly faces and youth work (2 boys 6&7) has helped as we have been invited out to BBqs etc. Just an idea! Guest DadAgain Posted February 5, 2009 Share Posted February 5, 2009 Hi, Its a bit of a hike from the GC I know - but I'm trying to organise a bit of a meet-up for a few people on Sunday for a BBQ in the bushland at Boombana (Mt Nebo) to the west of Brisbane. Its a great spot up in the hills surrounded by lush rainforest and with frequent appearances of large goannas, and colourful birds. Theres been a few newbies arrived in NW suburbs recently and I figured it was a good chance to try and break the ice. Of course there are equally nice spots much closer to you - but if you felt like you wanted to hear a friendly voice or 2 you're more than welcome to come along - just bring something to drink and something to eat. I'll light the fire and start the BBQing - nothing formal - nothing structured.... We moved up to Brissy from Sydney last year and it's hard starting over again. I also have a 12 year old girl. We are about an hour from you but if you'd like to come up for a BBQ sometime then you would be really welcome. We have to come down to Southport on Sunday for a diving competition which my 9 year old is competing in - I've not been down to the Gold Coast before so I am looking forwards to it. Plus the heat has been a killer(literally for some). Things take time as you know after starting first in Adelaide. I think it's because there is so many poms in Hallett Cove that it is easier to make friends but you'll get there. Best of luck and I hope you and Meg get socialising soon as I know it can be a bit daunting starting again. Just don't make any hasty decisions.:arghh: See you in March. I'd be up for some female company and chat over coffee, anyone else? What about The Coffee Club at Homeworld, Helensvale opposite The Good Guys or maybe even somewhere at Westfield shopping centre maybe one morning next week? Anyone interested?
