1st post!:cool: Just received our visas (yay!) and getting set for the June 2014 intake. Anyone else going in June? Hubby a Medical Services Officer and we'll be based in the Sydney area -won't know exact job until nearer the time. I've a million questions so all help gratefully received!!!

First couple of questions 1, Do UK DAB radios work over in Aus? 2, Do ordinary 'plug in' phones fit their sockets?

Our date is 25 June but that may change...but I'm sure we'll meet at some stage out in Aus. We're getting ridiculously excited now although I'm not looking forward to the logistics of getting our house sorted out in order to get it rented -haven't had time to sell as we only got the transfer offer 20 Dec!:wacko: Your visa shouldn't take very long -we had our request for passport page details last Fri' and got our visas Mon'!!!!

Where are you based as we're in Plymouth? :cool:

Hi, my oh is also a MS officer and we are transferring to Sydney area in June  feels like we have been waiting forever! COS signed May 2013, Visas granted back in September!! just waiting for intention to appoint signal  very likely we will be on same intake! Looking forward to meeting you if we are 

We've been told the DAB radios don't work there, also read on another forum that landline phones will work with a plug in adaptor (apparently you can buy the adaptor in maplins!) if they are DECT phones, but if there is a fault on your line that requires a engineer call to sort, they have been known to charge $1000+ because they feel phones caused fault. Like I say, it's only quotes I've read and we plan on buying new ones there just for peace of mind! Hope this helps a little

OH's will be going through together! :biggrin:Curtis works with Chris (going in April) who says he knows Ian. They are out for Chris' leaving do at the pub this Thur so I'll be round at Sharon's then -they've been very helpful also. Can't wait to meet you both! Thanks re the info on the DAB. It's a bit of a minefield deciding what goes/stays as there tends to be conflicting advice but we received info/contact details off the WO yesterday so he should be able to help iron out the wrinkles. We're also just waiting for the appoint signal and his KEYS no. I think Luci was hoping to do this by Easter.

Must go and cross a few more things off my 'to do' list...see you soon :cool:

I have used this Great website for lots of useful information since EOI dec 2012 and have just paid for our visa, funny how one click can cost so much $$$. It's all good as we Finally feel we will get there! re DAB radios, I thought if it is DAB+ compliant then it will work over there - older UK DaBs are not.

We're a little further down the LONG road -due out in June! OH applied in July13 and had job offer Dec13. We then Applied for Aus' visas (cost approx £3,600 for 2) -granted Feb14.

 

Hope it all goes smoothly and I'll post any hints/tips along the way as I come across them.

we started the process last year... We are the visa stage now with just our medicals to do, very exciting! Our COS States November so hoping to be over there by Christmas! We are going to WA as the OH is also a submariner. If you have any questions would be happy to answer them!

i doubt your OH will have any problems being a submariner. Just do yourselves a favour and try and chill, the whole process takes 18-24 months (there are a few who have managed it in a yr) sometimes you will feel nothing will happen and then it's one big mad rush!

The staff are super and they do get things done in the time scales! Good luck and maybe see you in Perth.

I'd like to wish you and anyone else transferring from RN to RAN the very best of luck.

 

Our process has been going on for three years due to some medical issues but we finally fly Thursday!

 

Everyone who's dealt with out transfer have been great. Sometimes things are slow and sometimes you don't get time to breathe! The RAN is also very flexible with when you want to transfer. Timing can be an issue. When to submit notice, visas etc. Good planning can make things easier. There's a wealth of information here on Pomsinoz regarding any part of your emigration and you can ask any of us 'ex RN'ers' here if you have any RAN transfer question.

 

I look forward to seeing any other Submariners here on Garden Island soon!

Hi I'm after some advice if possible, my Husband has just been successful at the Lateral Board, and so the process will begin.

 

I am under investigation for MS but, they cannot get a definitive diagnosis but, am due to start treatment very soon. Has anyone with MS managed to emigrate successfully, is there anyone I could contact for advice? There wouldn't be any point in paying out for the visa process if its going to be a No.

we are in the process of emigrating to oz as well. The whole process will have taken nearly 2 years from when we expressed our interest to actually moving over. You have 6 months to start the application for your visa once your labour agreement is in place. I would suggest maybe wait to see what your diagnosis is before you apply for the visa..

My first reply answering your question is missing but Yes! A friend of ours transferred a couple of years ago. His wife has MS but it wasn't an issue for them.

 

The only issue I see you having is the fact that you're currently 'under investigation'. Without a formal diagnosis they may hold on making a decision about your visa depending diagnosis.

thank you for replying, I am definitely keeping my Specialist on his toes, showing the symptoms but they can't get a definitive result on all tests, hence why they are going to start me on treatment, which I don't have to start. I have had a message from someone else and I could go for my medical first and then if it's a No not have wasted all that money on a visa application. I'm feeling positive though, if it's meant to be it will happen.

I think most people are concerned re medicals in general, as long as all conditions are treated and controlled ie won't be a burden on the Aus health care, most will pass medical. Regarding your medicals and situation , immigration tend to be a bit concerned re any 'ongoing investigations' their policy has changed considerably over the last couple of years. I would suggest you phone or email immigration or a medical centre for some up to date professional advice, as it may not be beneficial for you to attend a medical until you have a full diagnosis or on medication that can control your condition.

Although the next day OH received another email informing him that he was in fact yet not fully successful and had to attend a face to face interview. System changed last sept/oct....well that's what they told us! Every case seems to be different tbh.

 

Here's how ours has panned out -

 

told successful after med board in August, awaiting LA to be drawn up.

Mid October informed there was a selection panel mid November and there was a possibility of interview /video conference.

2 days before selection board received a questionnaire ...actually it was more like an interview on paper! Also had to be hand written tbh it was very thorough.

Beginning of DEC - successful in selection board however still fully expected to have interview or video conference as stated prior.

19th December job Offer received.

Mid january LA Received.

 

certainly is a roller coaster of emotions this process! I'm sure your OH should be ok. Not really sure this message will help put your mind at ease, you need that LA in your hand for that!
