Hi, I agree this would be really helpful as there seems to be so many different options (and acronyms) We are going to start the process soon also. It is very daunting

Hi Vicky

You basically have two choices.

You can either enlist the help of an agent or do it yourself (which we did).

If you decide to go it alone then the first thing that you need to do is to go to the DIAC website (http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/)and:

1: Use the visa selection/points tool, which will tell you if you have enough points and which visa's you may be eligible for - Australian Visa wizard - Visas & Immigration

2: Check all the links on that are relevant to whichever visa that you go to and DO YOUR RESEARCH.

There are links to the states and territories, if you are lokking at state sponsorship. There are links to the skills assessment bodies and there are links to every other aspect of the process that you just might need.

But most importantly you must make the most of the diac website and do your resaerch. Plus there are also all the nice people on here that can answer any of your questions.

Good luck

Howard.

Hello Vicky & Jeff

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

How old is Jeff and what is his occupation, please? Please choose from this list:

A-Z Occupations List - Australian Skills Recognition Information

Please could you let me have a link to the relevant occupation? Thanks. Also, how long has Jeff been doing the occupation for, please?

Are you hoping to move to Perth or WA permanently?

Are there any complications like a child from an earlier relationship who will not be migrating with you, or the Ex From Hell who is determined not to let you take his/her child out of the UK? What about elderly parents who live with you and whom you hope will be able to migrate with you as well?

The exact steps to follow depend on what you say in response to my queries above.

Best wishes

Gill

Hello leanneg

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

At this stage, you wonder what on earth everyone is on about with Aussie visas and the whole move does seem very daunting. However please don't worry because it does all start to make sense after a while.

Please could you also answer the questions which I have asked Vicky & Jeff?

Many thanks

Gill
