Guest Leighton
Hi, I'm currently looking into moving to Oz on a 12-month visa, with a view to a more permanent move. This has involved trawling through a number of recruitment sites and throwing my CV at whoever lets me. My academic level is HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, although I am doing my degree via the OU. What would be the best way to find work, or are my chances pretty slim? Thanks to whoever replies :smilexmas:
Life on easy street
I am electronics Technician. Technical certificate in mining electrical HTC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. 23 years experience in the electronics Industry. Unfortunately the electronic / electrical engineering industry is very insular in Australia :arghh: So unless you are 100% exactly what the company wants you will find it very hard going. The best Job agency I have found so far is http://www.australiawide.com.au I have not been able to get a permanent job in my trade in fact it has been an uphill struggle to get a even a temp casual job. I am currently training for a job in IT.
Guest Leighton
Ah, I see...I've been working mainly in pre and post sales support i.e. Field Applications Engineer in the polution monitoring industry and then ink jet. Would it be a better idea to simply find some unskilled work to enable me to search while out there? I've approx £10,000 saved. Would that be enough to see me through? Sorry for all the q's! Life on easy street
I can only inform you of my experience of Melbourne. Given the current world economic situation it is more of a risk to move to Australia than it was 12 months ago. I know migration agents can be expensive But I would recommend you speak to a registered migration agent about all your possible visa options Before you leave for Australia.:policeman: But if it is your dream to move to Australia and you can obtain a 12-month work visa Then 10k pounds should be enough to survive if you are not too extravagant and can obtain some part time work while looking for more skilled work. A better solution might be a take a four weeks holiday in Australia it should give you enough time to look for employment sponsor possibilities. I would recommend you look on web sites http://mycareer.com.au/jobs/melbourne/engineering/electronics-engineering/ http://www.seek.com.au If you have the opportunity to attend Engineer’s Australia holds expos April every year http://careers.monash.edu.au/news/engineers-australia-free-careers-expo.html I do not know if other states run similar expos Australian C.V I do not agree with everything he claims but it may worth a look http://www.tribuslingua.com.au/blog/?cat=
