Removal Companies Costs?

Recommended Posts

Hiya

I have had one quote from John Mason - they want £4k for a 20ft container and another 1k to ship along a few extra bits....I think this is expensive?

Is it any cheaper to get a bigger container???

Is there a chance some of you out there can give me the names of

The companies you used?

The size of the container?

And the cost please????

I obviously want to save a few quiddies if i can

cheers

Hi Bex

We have had 5 quotes. For 975 cu ft - almost filling a 20ft container.

Masons and PSS £4,600 both of them

Allied Pickfords £3,800

Local firm using Mason for shipping £3,600

so for us Masons is the cheapest when used as a sub-contractor, if that makes sense.

Hope that helps

Forgot to say - barter with them to get the price down! They need the work. No-one is moving! Our remover calls so often, I'm considering putting him on my BT Family and Friends now! LOL

Hi andy and Tanya

People are going to start talking about us we seem to be chatting a lot lol:biglaugh:

I got various quotes and they varied quite a lot in price, So i contacted a local removal company, that gave us a quote for £3500, for a full 20ft container fitting as much as they can in. so I contacted pickfords and asked them if they could match the price and they said yes, so going with pickfords. The removal companys are really quiet just now and so you are in the driving seat. i wish i'd asked for a lower price, but i'm really happy with the price i got all the best

Hi, I personally wouldn't go for a larger container. We had a big sort out before coming over and had room to spare in our 20ft container. If money is tight, consider the DIY option, we were quoted 2,200 GBP (plus insurance on top the same as international removers) and all you had to do was pack and load yourself, they would ship and deliver the other end.

Thanks all

I doubt we will have the time to do it ourselves. There is also a motorbike in the container and i guess they are stinging us for that.

May also try Pickford and see what they come us with.

Anyone else got any quotes?

Hi bex ...we are only taking household stuff with us ....no furniture ....so i suppose our quote of £1000 is irrelevant [might be of use to someone else though ] that was for 37 boxes .....but i did notice you mentioned motorbike ...which we got a seperate quote for and it came in at £545 ..all crated ...these quotes were both with whites international

Hi Bex

Quick update

Andy got Allied Pickfords down to £3,500 and they are the complete package - same firm both ends, so we have booked them. They said we can fill a 20ft container with as much as we can get in. Definitely worth haggling.

We used Fox based at Stourbridge. It took them 2 days to wrap n pack and load a 20ft container. Very proffesional. Nothing was too much trouble. We even wanted to get a few extra bits and they let us run them over on the weekend.

We didnt quite fill it but took almost every thing. They use agents the other side and its due to arrive on the 11th November so will keep you informed. It has cost us £3,600..

Hi all

We got quotes from Anglo and Crown.

Decided to go with Crown after both quotes came through as they seemed to care more and want the business. Anglo were round 3 weeks before Crown but did not call us back once despit us chasing them. If thats how they behave when they want Biz, what will they behave like when they have your money? Crown spoke sense and impressed. 1/2 container £2700. Delivery same both ends and delivered to Perth in 12 weeks.

Good luck with your choice

Yep, £3500 seems to be the current going rate for a standard move of a 20' container....unless it's Crown: they seem to want double everyone else.

Yep, Crown wanted £4,600 and this even included $400 for quarantine checks which you may not even have to have. They don't refund it if you don't have them though - bit naughty.

PSS seem to be a favourite. Have been advised not to take fridge due to the settings not being cold enough for Oz or something. They are probably only geared up to take the british summer lol!!

We arrived in Perth February 2010 & loving it!!

Hi

We've had a few quotes but bored with that now so got to decide!

Anglo was just over £5k then come down to £ 49oo

Pss £4600

Wridgeways which r in oz & who use John masons this end £5600

2x Local companies both around £4300

Robinsons waiting 4 quote

All was on a 20ft container, taking most of a 3bed semi, fridge going been told no prob, we are on a very full load.

So far we keen on Robinsons although no price yet, found them very professional & the only ones that gave great detail on how everything will be packed, plus to hubbys delight at no extra cost will do a custom made crate for his plasma tv.

plus have offered to remove any items we can't take or fit in & will drop at local charity shops.

Hope of some help one i get the final quote will post it.

Good luck all

Kris :wubclub:

I'm stuck with trying to decide who to go with as well. We also have a motorbike in our shipment. We've cleared out a load of stuff and should be good to go in a 20ft container.

We had Pickfords around and while I thought he was ok, I wasn't sure. Their quote was £4,200 including the bike.

Then we had Anglo Pacific and I liked him much better. He made a list going around and then sent us the list of what we would have to dismantle and what they would do. But as the bike was not there when he came, we would have to bring it to Wembley for them to crate up, not a nice idea when it has just been polished clean... He did seem to know what he was talking about and said that there was a very good chance that even through we would have the bike steamcleaned be prepared for the australians to do it again. Their quote was £4600.

Then after chasing after Crown for weeks, they finally came over. I more or less told them that I wouldn't choose them based on their appalling customer services but that if their quote was competitive, I would consider them. To which his reply was that they would certainly be more expensive than Anglo or Pickfords and did I want them to leave then!!! Can you believe that, they didn't seem to even care. He blamed a member of staff in the office for sending us on a merry go round. We've not yet had a quote back from them. He also mentioned something about maybe requiring a tail lift to get the bike onto the container. I just dont think I am too happy about using them.

In the end, I am edging towards Anglo. They do subcontract in Australia but I got the best feeling about them. The guy from Pickfords told me they'd match anyones price. He was more of a salesman than removals specialist. I dont know if we are making the right decision but somehow, I feel that with the whole move, I will have to make at least one mistake...!!!

By the way, we've just applied for our vehicle import approval, it take 17 days, this will probably delay things for us. Would be really interested in who you choose and why...

We went with PSS: £3500 for everything they could get into a 20' container, including my bike (they 'overcrate' it). Anything surplus, £5.60 per cubic foot (minimum of £250).

ok so far - all for 20fter

Masons - 4K plus an extra grand for bits and bobs....bit too expensive but they keep ringing me

Bonner - 3950 for evering....20ft plus extras...includes 4 weeks free storage either end

Robinsons - says all should fit in a 20fter quoting 3450

Pickford - says all should fit in a 20footer says will be3 between 4-5k

insurance quotes between 2.5 and 3% on top......anyway of doing it cheaper...im sure i saw a post a while back

we got the quote back from Crown. After the initial paperwork said 3900, the quotation was actually £5846. They can whistle for it......
