Guest Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Is there anyone who lives/lived in Scotland that had a police check done? Although we are going on a 457 visa, the agent has suggested I get a police check as I have (a minor!) record - oops! He has sent me a form for ACRO and instructions below which quite frankly don't make sense in light of the form (& the links don't work!) United Kingdom In order to obtain your United Kingdom police clearance certificate, you will need to obtain a clearance from the last region in the United Kingdom that you resided. If your last place of residence was London, the appropriate application form is located at http://www.met.police.uk/dataprotection/forms/3019b.pdf. If it was not London, please contact the police service that covered your local area, the index for this is located at http://www.police.uk/forces/forceslist.asp. The web page that will provide you with some further information is located at http://www.met.police.uk/dataprotection/forms.htm. Having gone onto the Met site it says they don't issue Police Clearence Certificates, that's ACRO but ACRO says it's England, Wales and NI........ So where do you get a Police Clearance Cert from in Scotland??? Agent is in Australia so they can be forgiven for not knowing the difference, I'll just pretend New Zealand is part of Australia when I speak to them ))))))) It'll waste at least day if I have to get back to the agent & each day matters! Jules

Guest Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Driving without an MOT...just thought I'd try and be mysterious! Thanks on advice - I have an enhanced disclosure Scotland so I am hoping that will be acceptable but got the forms anyway.

Guest Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Thanks I have downloaded the form from Central Scotland Police site - don't like the 40 day turnaround though. I'm emailing the agent to see whether he thinks we should submit the application without it - it's a 'spent' conviction anyway so won't even show on a police check!
black boab Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 We emigrated 5 years ago from Scotland. We walked into the local police station and they gave us the relevant forms. It cost us around 20 pounds each and they came back pretty quickly. Maybe things have changed. Not sure . Ask in your local police station. You might find it is as easy as that.
Guest fergie family Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Hi Our agent sent us the forms. It only takes around 10 days and costs £35. Susan
Guest Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Well agent is Oz has said my Disclosure Scotland Certificate should be sufficient - this is only a 457 visa where normally police checks aren't required at all, it was only because I had disclosed the traffic offence that it came up at all. Fingers crossed! Jules
sandramcd Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 It sounds like you are sorted, but I didn't sleep last night after reading this thread!! I had just sent off our Forms to ACRO, clearly without having read the thing properly, and was thinking they were going to return the forms and tell me we're numpties!! Thankfully they arrived all beautiful and clean (phew!) this am. It definately didn't mention Scotland on the form when I checked again, but obviously it's ok. What can I worry about tonight, I wonder...?!
