Guest hartleys Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Hi We are hoping to be in Perth in Feb 09. My Dad is hoping to be able to visit us for 6 months each year. I have been looking into tourist visas for him and all i can find is the tourist visa for 3 months then possibly being able to extend it. Is there another way to do it? My brother already lives in Perth so 2/3 of his family will be there, not sure if this makes a difference. Thanks in advance Lisa

Guest Gollywobbler Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Hello Lisa Welcome to Poms in Oz. As the previous poster has said, the subclass 676 standard tourist visa is the right one for Dad. Tourist Visa (Subclass 676) Whilst he is in Oz he will get limited Medicare (which we always found was perfectly adequate for my Mum) under the Reciprocal Health Care Agreement between the UK and Oz: Visitors to Australia - Medicare Australia If Dad is 70 or over he will have to get his own GP to complete a simple form of medical ceritificate which is here: dima_health - Australian High Commission However British tourists to Australia do not need private medical insurance for Oz, despite what it says on the DIAC website. The RHCA counts as health insurance for the subclass 676 visa but very few countries have RHCAs with Oz, hence the wording of the website. From what you say, Dad may become eligible for Parent migration once you move to Oz? Family - Visas & Immigration Parent Migration Booklet Best wishes Gill
