Guest stevenl Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 HI all, just a quick question me and three other people will be arriving in Adelaide in about 5 months and we will be looking to buy a car or anything that will get us around the rest of the country. But we got no idea about getting a car, for example how much are they (second hand)? how much is insurance and tax. Is petrol as expensive as over here in England? thanks you in advance
Guest heieup Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Petrol is cheaper, there is a site Motorists as Consumers - Australian Automobile Association which gives average state prices. Cars seem to be fairly expensive to me, 2nd hand ones really seem to hold their value, you can see the costs for buying a car www.TradingPost.com.auon here for ideas regarding what you'd buy and prices in your area. Can't help much more than that I'm afraid but there are oddities relating to insurance and registration as far as I can tell, hopefully someone else can help out with clarifying these.
Guest Al&Jo Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 We have been over here 1 month and have just bought two cars. It all depends what you want. The first car we bought is a Ford Territory 4 litre, 4 years old and cost $32,000. It is a very nice car but a bit too juicy for us so want to sell it! Anyone interested? Insurance for this is $700 but we can get cheaper. The second car we got (to get hubby to work) was a Daewoo (think that is spelt right) this one cost just $4,000. Not sure how old it is but is actually a very good car:-) Not sure how much the insurance is for this one. Petrol has just gone up to $1.50 ish a litre. I would say take a look on www.automarket.com.au this will give you some idea of what you are looking at. The secondhand cars seem to be quite old and have very high mileage (or K's if you speak Oz) Hope this helps a little bit Jo
