Steph01 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Hi Guys, I need a bit of help!!! I've submitted my online application and attached my documents last week. Do I now have to wait for them to contact me about the medical examination or do I just go ahead and book it? They dont make it very clear on the application. When I check the status of my application it just says the med stuff is outstanding, is this right? Are they just waiting for me to do this are am I waiting for them? God, this could all drive you crazy!! Anyway, if you could help me out that would be great. Steph:wacko:
Guest Tracey from Braintree Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Hi Steph, You haven't said what visa type you have applied for but if it is a 175 skilled you can get your meds and police checks done at any time. Once you get a case officer they will request them if you haven't already done them. The deciding factor is that once you get your visa you get a certain time to 'validate' the visa by entering Oz. The time is dictated by the date of your meds/Police check whichever you did first. You get 1 year from that date. I notice you are in Cardiff! I lived there up until 2004 (30+ years). Tracey.
Guest CanaryWharfTom Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Hey I had the same situation when applying online for my 175 visa and got the message that I should get the meds/police check done. I think it was an automated message but I did mine straight away and submitted them....some people wait until they have a case officer before they do them. Pro and cons to each: PRO - if you do the meds/police check early and submit ('frontload') it will make the whole process quicker as the case officer will have everything already when they come to review your case meaning they can come to a decision sooner without having to request the additional info and waiting for you to get it done CONS - if you submit meds/police checks early and your case is not reviewed within a year they expire and you have to get them done again which is obviously time consuming and costly Personally I think you're fairly safe to get the meds/police checks done early - you'd be pretty unlucky if it takes over a year and have to do it all again. It does happen though so bewarned - you need to weigh up the risks/benefits etc. Hope this helps and good luck with everything. And be patient, the whole process takes a while and you may not hear anything for months! Tom
