Guest WARDStoOZ Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Hi all... Does anyone have anything positive to say about football (soccer) opportunities in Oz??? My dad seriously believes my brother could make it as a top professional footballer! and this is seriously holding my dad back from giving Oz a go as he does not believe opportunity is there in the form of football! I keep telling him about the amount of academies in Oz but he needs further encouragement... That's where I'm hoping you'll come in! Please, Please help!!! Regards, Dan x
ali Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Hi Dan, Soccer is a growing sport here in Aus with more and more playing - they're even going to expand the A league to accommodate more teams. Obviously as yet, it's not UK standards of football but I'm sure that will come .. if your brother is good then there will be plenty of opportunities for him - look at how many aussies play abroad, and the socceroos would probably give England a run for their money at the moment. Regards, Dan x hiya,my son is a very good football player, and he was worried about all this before we left but..... he joined a local team here, and they are like the man utd youth squad! and they had never seen anything like what he could do!! they were so impressed it was unreal. he did have a few hurdles to cross before he was allowed to play here, as in they had to get international clearance for him to play, police checks etc, had to make sure he was not under any bans etc, it seemed a lot of hassle at the time, but worth it in the end! he can go really far if he sticks at it etc! we also had to provide our passports and visa's and even a letter of my hubby's work!! the season has finished here now, but tonight he starts another soccer thing, cant remember what its called , but like a 5 a side thing!! costs $90 for the season, his football is $250 per season, but he says its well worth it, so who am i to argue!!!! if you need any more info feel free to pm me! sheena :wubclub:
Guest christel Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Hi, agree with Sheena whole heartedly, i've put a thread about sport in Aus. Scouts and coaches are on the look out constantly and they do move good people forward to Cadet teams of large clubs. We only have 20 million people here so the chances of being a star are much better against being a star in amoungst the 65 million in the UK..
Guest driver_diver Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 classic Aussie answer that one, im sure youll be claiming to be best in the world at football next lol
Guest christel Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 lol..what is it have a go at me day..only trying to put a positive spin on things and trying to be helpful with some web addresses and anything else people ask..oh well..obviously not required lol..so ill go back to being a typical aussie housewife lol cya all x
Guest taffy 62 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 My son played soccer here from age 6. when they get to age 10 they can try out for reps. My son did this then from there they pick the best of the reps. From there they pick a state team. If you get better than that then you may get selected to join the institute of sport and from there you get picked for the soccerroos matildas etc. My son is a good soccer player he got picked for an acadamy team here they sent him to the uk to try out for clubs. One club wanted him and because the guy this end wasnt going to make enough money out of him he didnt do all the necessary things for my son to go. Just be careful who you get involved with. Some other boys I know have moved back to england as they had a chance of playing for english clubs. I reckon theres not the chances here in soccer and you can only go so far there are more opertunities overseas, but you also have to realise theres more people trying out for positions also. If you are good enough out here you can go further, Josh kennedy and Archie thompson started our at our little club and now they play for the socceroos. Bare in mind you could move out here to give kids a good start in life or a better lifestye only to find they end up moving back there for their soccer !
