Guest WARDStoOZ Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Hi! You'll be glad to hear you're not the only ones! My mum is a midwife and is just 46. Who knows if we'll ever get to Oz but after doing extensive research we now know it is possible, mainly because my mum's job is so "in demand" in Oz. She could go on either a 457, 121 or RSMS visa. Check those visas out - 457 is temporary (up to four years but can be upgraded to permanent once in Oz by way of a 121 visa) and the 121 and RSMS visas are both permanent. For the 457 and 121 visas you need to find an employer who is willing to sponsor you and for the RSMS visa you need to go to live in a "rural" area of Australia - so not the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle etc. Adelaide is however considered "regional"! Hope that helps, What is your job??? Good luck, from Dan aka WARDStoOZ x
Herbster Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 we seem to be the only ones !!!! is there any help for us oldies ?...How old are you and how did you make it over to Oz (no not by plane)...would like to hear from you and about your experiences....thanks sassy Why are you so sad Sassy? Don't be sad! I'm well over & it would be most impolite to ask by how much, but of course with the Visa process there are NO secrets from those guys - what they don't know about me, my Life, my family, where I've been & with whom in the preceding decade & beyond, ain't really worth knowing! So that's the first hurdle! Once my partner (obviously MUCH younger) & I decided on coming to OZ, it was initially very nerve wracking, thinking our age difference would be the major stumbling block! While OH had plenty of points (on paper) because of our personal situation, the fact he had been in the military & his Trade/Skill was difficult to determine we hired a good agent (several £K) to guide us thru' the quagmire. And it had to be worth it, because just about 18mts later we were here. Proving the de facto relationship can be quite tricky just because you need loads of evidence spanning the course of your relationship: - so to anyone in a similar situation considering such a move - for heaven's sake, don't throw out anything with both your names on! When it came time to write our story, although we had taken thousands of photos on our joint exploits, hardly any included both of us... :embarrassed: So when you eat out - take your camera & get the waiter to take snaps of you, every gathering you go to, get someone to take photos of you together - but preferably interacting - not just the arm-in-arm pose in various different settings!! I promise you, you'll be thanking me in 6-months time! Keep invitations, Xmas cards, get snaps of each other with each other's family - in-laws, etc.! AND begin a diary so you can cite events accurately...!! Memories one of the first things to go - & you DO need to be accurate! So far as being able to apply for a Visa on your own recognizance once over 45 (unless you consider NZ as an alternative) I can't really help... Sorry! I'm sure there must be certain areas where you'd think OZ would be desperate for skilled help - teaching/nursing/medical prof - but we are here on a Permanent 136. The only restriction I had was that OH entered OZ before me - so he was in line first, but as it was, they had us both together as we were traveling together! I must say, I don't know if we'd go thru' all this upheaval, trauma, spending copious sums of hard-earned cash for a Temp Visa, I & certainly OH, couldn't imagine going thru' all that & not knowing if we were going to be here in 5-yrs time. Clearly, Life happens, & we don't have a crystal ball for the future, but we wouldn't be able to buy the house that we are buying or have the same sense of permanence if we were on a Temp visa & even thu' there's a chance it can be perm, there's nothing to say when the time comes, that circumstances will have changed - you'll be considerably older & you might not be such an attractive proposition then... Unless you've got pots of dosh, and that always has a sweetening effect on these kids of situations! Anyway, don't let that put you off! Just bear it in mind considering YOUR needs, desires, likes & DISLIKES & TRY & MATCH that up to a place/job out here you might like. There are downsides to some of these sponsored Visas, & JUST BEING IN OZ might not be compensation enough for having to live in the back & beyond or being tied into a situation for 2-years that you loath... just take it all on board, just go into the process eyes wide open with an optimistic heart & a steely determination, as getting here could be half the battle!!! :jiggy: All the best, I'm sure Gollywobbler - an expert on retired Visas - would have something helpful to say on this subject - Wishing you Success with what ever path you choose! xXx
