Guest samjs Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 I am looking at moving to Oz inapproximately 2 years. I am a fully qualified primary school teacher with a BA QTs Primary Eduation degree which I completed over 3 years. This was followed by my NQT year and am now in my 6th year of teaching. I am wondering if anybody has been able to get a teaching job in Oz with this qualification over 3 years as I keep hearing that I needed to have done a 4 year course. Would also be good to hear opinions from anyone teaching in the primary sector in Oz. Samjs
Quoll Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 I think you will find that you will need the fourth year to be registered unfortunately. Is there a course you could do to add your fourth year before you get here? I think I have heard that there may be an exception but only when there is no 4 year trained teacher available - that means living way out in the bush in some godforsaken little town that no one in their right mind would want to live in, more often than not. Unfortunately Primary teaching is highly competitive as there are loads of teachers out there and many new graduates cant get jobs but any vacancies there are are not in places which are desirable to live. They are predicting a dearth of teachers when this current mob retire but the teacher training colleges are still churning them out by the million so I dont quite see that happening. If you do want to be marketable, do a 4th year and specialise in something like special ed, especially autism or behaviour management.
Guest samjs Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Would I have the same problems applying for vacancies in private or church schools do you know? Sam
