Guest hannah7819 Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Hi. Just wanted to say hello to all on PIO - we are hopefully going to join the many who are getting out of the UK to head for paradise!!!! As the title suggests,we have realised just how much this is going to entail and are struggling with where to start but this will just add to our sense ofachievement when (positive thoughts, positive thoughts haha) we get to Oz. Already had lovely words of encouragement from a couple of you guys on here and get from ur posts that clearly ur a friendly bunch, sooo..........nice to meet you all, look forward to chatting Hannah
Guest The Pom Queen Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Hi Hannah Welcome to PIO, I am sure we can help with all your burning questions!!! Don't be afraid to ask away, no questions is to silly and we have all asked millions of questions ourselves at one time or another.
ali Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Hi Hannah and welcome to PIO, we're not a bad bunch and always try our best to help. We're spread all over the place so wherever you're heading someone I'm sure will be able to offer some advice or answer your questions. Check out the socialising section - there may be some 'meets' around your area in the UK
Guest hannah7819 Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 hehe thanks moving to melbourne - you may regret those words!!!!! thank you for ur lovely welcome, wow have sooo many questions and so much flying round my head - don't know where to begin.
Guest The Pom Queen Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 hehe thanks moving to melbourne - you may regret those words!!!!! thank you for ur lovely welcome, wow have sooo many questions and so much flying round my head - don't know where to begin. Ok, start writing the questions down as you think of them and just throw them out to us, as Ali says we have members everywhere so someone somewhere will know the answer. For all visa enquiries you have Alan Collet Managing Director of Go Matilda, George Lombard and our wonderful Gill. So please start asking away, we love questions:notworthy:
Guest hannah7819 Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Thank you ali- ideally we want to head for melbourne, we can't get over on skilled visa as my partner moved from working as a mechanic with honda to working in their hq doing tech support and quality control - apparently, according to an agent, it would be difficult to prove what percentage of his job is mechanical so we would be better off going down sponsorship route or him going back on spanners for a year and then trying. He has found a job at tech support at honda Oz and has applied but i think its unlikely anything will come of it as it will be a lot easier for them to employ from their oz pool!!! closing date is tomorrow sowill just have towait and see -altho i am nagging my bloke to phone and speak to someone. thank you for ur welcoming words - found this forum by accident but think its proving to be a good one. ur all so friendly - thanks :0)
Guest The Pom Queen Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Hannah Could your OH not ask to be transfered? Don't rely on just applying for jobs through agencies or email as you never hear anything back, I definately think it would be worth a call and explain that he already works for Honda in the UK. Good luck and I hope you hear something soon.
ali Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Hi Hannah, Although an expensive option .. some people come over for a holiday and do some door knocking with CV in hand and can secure sponsorship that way. Ali
Guest hannah7819 Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Moving to melbourne - yeah my OH did speak to HR last year - their response was it had never been done and then she continued to look at him in that well?????.........nothing i can do, what else do you want - way???? Didn't say anything like she could look in to it for him - thing is altho they are samecompany they work as seperate entities so uk has no reason tohelp OH get over there - i keep nagging him to speak to Honda uk and he just says theres no point theres nothing they can do, i think he thinks this because they were so unhelpful before - i thinkhe should try again. He has agreed that he needs to ring Honda Oz so thats something Ali - yeah that would be a plan but we have limited money which we have for this venture and we just can't afford to go out on a recce - good idea tho and would deffo do it if we could - so hard to stand out to employers when ur just words on an email :0(
calNgary Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Hiya Hannah ,welcome to poms in oz . There are lots of jobs out here for your hubby ,if you cant get a skilled visa and have to go sponsership i would ring everyone you can ,get up the yellow pages and the list of all garages and get ringing regardless if they are advertising for staff or not. Its hard to get a response from the Uk and most e-mails will go unanswered. Good luck with everything Cal x
Guest hannah7819 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Hi CalNGary - thanks for ur message - once again confirming that everyone on PIO rock!!!! Yeah, thats what i have said to my OH unfortunately, he really doesn't want to leave Honda so if we don't hear anything back from his application - which lets be honest is likely -then its going to be a long road to Oz :0( - will keep trying. thing i don't get is he is just as desperate to get to Oz he just doesn't want to compromise his career to get there and it's looking increasingly like he's going to have to - thanks s much for ur advice Yorkshirepom - prob having a blonde moment but was wondering what you meant by trade must be bad???:0)

Guest hannah7819 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Hmmm yeah itriedgettinghim to call them lastnight but he said he wanted to waitandsee if he heard anything - closing date is today - close of business for them now so he said he was gonna see if he heard anything tonight and if not will ring. he is very nervous as he is not a pushy person and knows he has got to be with this- think he is worrying about what he is going to say to them to be honest. very frustrating for me cos i would have phoned days ago!!!! lol if you have any advice for this it would be much appreciated - i think he would listen to someone who has had to go thru this, rather than me, who in his eyes is just nagging a whole lot more than normal!!! will deffo let you know if we hear anything
Guest The Pom Queen Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I know what you mean, my OH is not pushy and sometimes it can be frustrating. Please let him know that over here you do have to be pushy to get anywhere as they are so laid back. Emails hardly ever get answered and if you leave a voicemail you will struggle to get a reply. I am sure something will work out for you soon. I will keep my fingers crossed. Kate
Guest hannah7819 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 will deffo pass that on. goodness - if women could just be in charge solely of this whole process...........haha. He has it in his head that cos its honda and he works for them in the uk that he will def get a reply whether it be good or bad news. i have said to him that loads of people have said that emails are hardly ever replied tobut he has such faith in honda that he tells me it won't be like that. it might be like that in the uk but like you say - they are so laidback over there............flippin men!!!!

Guest hannah7819 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 EEEEEK!!!! He did it- my OH phoned the company!!!!! They gave him the spiel about not usually considering overseas applicants but did say they wouldn't rule him out. Also, they haven't looked at any of the other applications yet and the closing date was yesterday-see what you mean about them being laid back!!! Good thing is that she sounded suprised that he was ringing from UK and acknowledged that he certainly sounds keen so hopefully that will help his application to stand out when they finally get round to reading the applications????? Agreed to a ring back on friday so will keep you all posted - thanks again for all ur helpful advice and support Hannah
