Hi,

Can anyone tell me what is involved in having my skills as a motor mechanic through vetassess. I am a fully qualified motor mechanic by trade but have been off of the 'spanners' for some years.

I would like to hear from anyone that has been through the assessment in order to find out what is involved.

Please help!!

hi

when are you doing your vetassess practical test?

we had to wait 4 and a half months to get on the practical, which we thought was way to long to wait just to prove your a mechanic, when you have already given them mountains of paperwork to pass the paper assessment.

vetassess need to pull there finger out and make more dates avalible considering the amount we all have to pay them.

HI THERE, I REMEMBER WHEN IT ALL CHANGED IN SEPT 07, HAVING SENT THE TRA PAPERWORK THROUGH IN OCT and it comming back within 3 weeks my other half waited till December to do his practical in Birmingham , which was also set over TWO DAYS, it cost him £672.00 to do the practical plus two nights B&B.So i can understand what your saying, If you want to pm him im sure he will give you an insite as to what its all about although i do remember when he did his they were kind of guniepigs, and they may have changed things slightly.Rikki MARK ASHLEY AND NIAMH

Hi, Thanks for the response. I havent booked anything yet, but i am trying to find out how difficult the practical test is and what happens within the whole process.

I have always worked in the trade and have my City and Guilds MV technicians qualifications. The problem I have is that i have been off the spanners for about 10 years most of which time I have spent in different roles within the service department of a dealership. This is why I am trying to find out if I would be able to pass the practical test because as you rightly state it is very expensive.

Any Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Martin.

Thanks also for the Reply. If possible could you ask your OH what was involved on the technical side of the practical so i can consider if I would be able to pass.

Thanks Martin.

Hi Martin

my hubby sat the vetassess practical in july . firstly the paper based application is the hardest (in our opinion) there is alot of paper work to find including references from employer which should state what your duties are, how long you have worked there etc, the practical athough scary was not too bad I cant tell you of the top of my head what he had to do I will have to pick his brains but if you go onto the vetassess web site there is a self assessment and that gives you an idea of what is asked on the day

hope this helps a little

Hi Erinfay,

Thanks for this info. Its sounds as though i may struggle to get through if they are expected references from previous employer, as i presume they want to know if you have been on the spanners in recent years. Although I am still in the trade I haven't been hands on for a few years.

Regards Martin.
