tuckerfa Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 When you say football, do you mean rugby league? Football aka Footy is rugby league. If you mean soccer, then yes, there is a place very close to Birkdale. It's in Capalaba (about 5 mins max) and they are sponsored by Britain on the Bayside, which in situated in Birkdale. Very good shop for real bacon and cherry coke! Hope this helps. Frank PS If you say football to an Aussie, they'll think you mean rugby league. Rugby is rugby union and soccer is football. Confussed? I know I was/am.

tuckerfa Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Yes Earlswood, I'm perfectly a where (correct spelling?) of what you are saying, I was just pointing out what they say over here. If you say football, it may cause some confusion (rightly or wrongly). I still can't get used to saying either of them. If I talk about either, I always qualify it by saying "football, soccer" or "football, rugby league". I think it's the only way I can get to grips with it in my head. From what I have seen, the Capalaba set up looks real good. A big club house and several floodlit pitches. It even has it's own set of traffic lights to get you onto the main road. Of a weekend all the pitches have got games going on nearly all day (all age groups I guess). Even weekday evenings for training the pitches are well used. I'm sure you'll fit in a treat. When you get there drop me a line (I'm less than 5 mins from Birkdale). Frank
Guest andynnik Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Yes, i do mean soccer, although that will take a bit of getting used to. many thanks for the info

Guest andynnik Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 you any good. I`m not bad Earlswood. I play in defence. Just wondering if the amateur soccer(football) over there would be similar to it here and if i would fit in.

It is a much slower pace on the pitch over here and do not try and break your legs like some "pub teams" back home....crap to watch but better for your health to play in.
