Hi Chris

Unfortunately the only way to monitor progress on paper-based 176 applications generally is by watching other people's reported timelines on the various forums.

The only official way to get information is to e-mail the following address:

aspc.processing@immi.gov.au

Send a completely blank e-mail: no heading, no body-text because nobody will read it. The sent e-mail will generate an auto reply, usually within about an hour or two. In theory they update the information in the e-mail on Tuesdays, so you keep sending off for a new one every Tuesday or Wednesday.

In practice, the e-mail seems to describe Tail End Charlie: the applicant from the high-risk country whose visa is taking longer than anyone else's to wend its way through the system. Since Tail End Charlie is also e-mailing the ASPC every Tuesday no doubt, I guess their caution is understandable.....

Best wishes

Hi, we are paper based, sent off May 2008. You can send them a email asking for process and send you times. You are meant to be contacted within 5 working days. When did you send yours? What visa number? we are general skilled, it looks like the average waiting time to get a case officer is six months. But some take longer and some are quicker.

But paper based are slower than online.

Good luck!
