Did anyone else do the IELTS test on the 27th sept. ? I did it in Nottingham last saturday. After getting the practice book and CD was not too worried beforehand. The general 4 tests were as I had expected, although I am convinced I have failed. I lost my place on the last section of the listening test and had to guess the last few answers. On the reading part, the passage was more like the ones I had seen on the academic sections and was more difficult than expected. The writing one I found better than I thought as I was expecting this to be the hardest one.:arghh:

Hi,

There's another interesting thread called "IELTS any advice". There are quite a few peeps that had to endure the IELTS torture on the 27/9/08 - me included!! I know exactly what you experienced - for me it was rather an intense happening. You sound as if you're a bit worried - you'll be fine - you wrote your post in good/excellent/perfect English, so no problem!!!:jiggy:Let us know how you got on?

Anyway this is a post I included on the above thread:-

How did the test go for you???

For me, I think/hope I passed. But, I was so nervous!!!

The questions were okish. It was the intensity of the whole thing that got to me:shocked:.

It was a bizarre experience!! However, I hope I didn't muck things up during the "speaking" test bit. Anyway, I was asked what type of outfit/clothing I would like to wear on a special occasion? Please believe me I was not trying to be funny or flippant - when I answered "a wetsuit".

For me a Dad with a two very young boys, having the time to go surfing is really wished for and I consider the event to be a "very special occasion". This threw the interviewer somewhat, especially since her scripted questions then forced her to ask me, why I liked wearing this item of clothing? I then again sailed very close to the wind with my answer - particularly the "I liked the smell of rubber" comment. Oh no, God help me I thought, I couldn't believe I just said that. I tried to qualify my answer, by saying something inane like "I mean this in an innocent non fetish type of way", but I probably only succeeded to dig myself deeper in a pit of embarassment. Despite this, my talk, I think, was coherent, grammatically correct and contained no errs, umms, urhhs, etc.

Anyway, anyone doing the test shouldn't be worried!! Just try to keep calm and you'll be fine. I'm an oldie and so haven't done a test like this since 1988.

The best bit of the whole day was talking to others doing the test. Four of us were also trying to emigrate to Australia. We had a good chat and shared experiences of the visa application process. It helped a great deal to know that others in the UK are going through the same system - each of us are not alone. It was a bit like a up front and personal snapshot of this forum. That is; a great source of information, shared experience and actual encouragement!!!!

Well, back to my original question - how did the 27/9/08 test candidates do???

Rob
