We are headed out to Central Coast NSW as soon as our visa comes through and we sell our house. We have been here almost 18 years and have decided it's time for a move obviously going home is out of the question so Oz it is! OH orginally from Transvaal and I am from Cape/ Durban. Its great to hear from all of you. My sister is living in Australia already, Thornton NSW. I have not done a rece to Australia, but have done lots of research and am very excited, but did not realise that the visa application process could be this long and time consuming. I am not a very patient person and like things to happen yesterday. My husband got his results from the TRA, he is an electrician(special class) by trade and it was rejected because he had not supplied enough detail about his apprenticeship. We use migrationexpert.au and feel like they should have known what was needed to lodge a successful application. We now have to reapply which obviously is going to cost more money. We both decided that we wanted to give Oz a go and then went through the long process of obtaining a 136 skilled independent visa. There is a large South African community in St Ives and also in Cherrybrook however we chose to live in a different area. In fact, last weekend we went to a deli in St Ives and bought boerewors and ouma rusks as a treat ! If you'd like any further information feel free to PM me. Guest zambezi15 Posted September 2, 2008 Share Posted September 2, 2008 Looks like there are quite a few of us South Africans doing the 2nd emigration bit, expensive, but what the heck.. We have been here 4 years....but I sneak off back to SA often when the long UK winter weather comes...its just too dark and cold. We hope to have our visa finalized by end of October, but have already booked fares to Cape for December to Jan, so will probably only move to Aussie in March. We are putting our house on the market but as the agent has already valued it £40000 below the price we purchased it for, we really would be crazy to write off that kind of cash ( bad enough as you all know when we bought the cash over on SA/UK exchange rates) so we are rather considering getting tenants. Its much much bigger than the other houses in the area...but they dont valuate it on the sq footage but on prices of what other houses fetched in the street..they say Brits dont go by size, I can believe that, it took us 8 months to find a reasonably priced place with a very big lounge ( not just long but long and wide hehe) and diningroom... If we have to be indoor for so many months...lets have space. Born in Johannesburg, gre up in ''old'' EAST LONDON then moved down to Cape Town where i stayed for about 11 years before coming over to the UK. now also heading for OZ, once i get all my papers ready i'll start the process. Guest zambezi15 Posted September 16, 2008 Share Posted September 16, 2008 My husband went for his medical today and it was discovered (unbeknown to us) he had high blood pressure. Now its apparantly a requirement that he has an appointment with the cardiologist and a ultra sound to check that BP did no heart damage...routine but a requirement. More ££££. But right now he is more concerned this does not end up in a refusal on medical grounds, as he feels great. As they say in Africa...its a real Ag shame. I have had blood tests done by the doc. and going again in 2 months time for a second ''check'' of my blood. then maybe then he will prescribe something so that the blood preasure will be brougt down. both my parents have HB, so know i'll have to go on these tablets soon. so thought i may as well do it now. As I know when it comes to me to do my medical for OZ they will also pick up my high blood preasure. so I better get it into order now ? what you think? How is it all going by the way ? the proces /? Guest zambezi15 Posted October 9, 2008 Share Posted October 9, 2008 Hi Phantom, We were so lucky, it turns out his BP was due to his medication that he was on, the specialist picked up the problem immediately, reduced his meds and he was down to normal. the relief for my husband, knowing he had no BP problem, added Bonus was when specialist said as the cause was so obvious he could find no reason to warrant a cardio check up, so we didn't need to pay £450??? thats what the cardiologists were going to charge to do a check up. Everything is on schedule just waiting for his police clearance certificiate from S A, we did our own visa application. We were unaware at the time Peter had HP which was the problem. Bascially he was lucky as his was a side effect as mentioned from other medication and it was a short term problem. Guest zambezi15 Posted October 10, 2008 Share Posted October 10, 2008 Hi Michelle, June 2008 UK nationalisation applications maybe processed by Dec???or Jan 2009, latest guide line on their web...thats for spouse and even if you are a straightforward British National descent marrying a Brit, other cses can take longer still. They have a huge backlog and no sign of catching up. Aussie Spouse much quicker. 12 weeks- Aussie other visa's about 9-14 months depending on criteria. Some work visa's are expedited and much quicker though. Aussie requires a Police Clearance from every Country you spent more than a year in within the past ten years. So if you were in RSA (seems like you just miss this) but if you were..you need to get fingerprints done here £63 mailed to Pretoria etc etc..Process they say 28 working days 2 weeks mailing if you sent a reply paid tracker enevelope. You pay R38 fee. If you were in RSa R38 fee would also cover fingerprints. All these processes take time would suggest you do both UK and Aussie simultaneously, It takes some months to get all the aussie requirements and once issued you have a year to validate your Aussie visa and your Uk Nationality should be sorted by then Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yay!! Hopefully won't have to do the SA police clearance. When applying for the Oz visa (175) at what stage do you need to give them your passports? I got that for the purpose of applying for UK citizenship, whether i will be able to use it when applying for aus citizenship i don't know. Thanks for your advice as well regarding the waiting time.
