Melissa J F Posted November 23 Posted November 23 Hi, we are hoping to move to the Sunshine Coast from uk. We have been looking at Caloundra & areas near to there. We are a young family & would be renting initially. We would love something near (ish) to the coast ideally walking distance to the beach but understand it is more expensive to rent being close to beach. We have 3 children so good schools are priority and & obviously a nice family friendly area would be important too. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Quote
calNgary Posted November 23 Posted November 23 Have you had a look at Realestate.com to get an idea of renting and purchasing costs? IMO theres no point renting in an area you cannot afford to buy in and prices on the SC have gone mental ( like most of QLD). https://www.realestate.com.au/buy/in-sunshine+coast,+qld/list-1 Caloundra is lovely but very busy, especially in tourist season, Buddina and Buderim are nice family areas. Marcoola and Coolum Beach are 2 more places i would look at. Mooloolaba and Noosa are 2 more great areas but they too get busy at tourist time and are quite expensive. Cal x 2 Quote
ramot Posted November 24 Posted November 24 I only know Both Mountain Creek and Chancellor Park schools have a good reputation, plus Buderim Mountain primary. House prices in most areas have gone mad, it depends where you are moving from what you can afford locally. I reckon a slightly older 4 bed, 2 bath in Sippy Downs possibly $8-9,000 to more modern $1.2 million +. Same in Mountain Creek. An older low set just close by was knocked down recently, 2 fairly small 2 storey houses close to each other built, 3 bed 2 bath, tiny garden and tiny pool, first sold $1.43 million, crazy, most fairly modern 4 bed 2 bath $1.2/or $1.3 million is the norm. Some people have more money than sense. Buderim doesn’t come cheap! 4 bed 2 bath in Sippy Downs rents for $700 a week i think Caloundra might be slightly cheaper? But I don’t know anything about schools. Every sport is very well catered for on the coast, plus most other facilities. Hope some of that helps 1 Quote

Cal x I agree Coolum, and Mooloolaba, but not Marcoola, a bit of a strange place. Noosa very pricey, Buderim, Sippy Downs Mountain Creek 8-15 mins to Mooloolaba, Buddina, Kawana, close to the sea Edited November 24 by ramot Quote

I agree and I said as much on a different thread the other day. However, when you live on the coast, rental and property prices can vary hugely within the same area depending on just how far you are from the beach. Edited November 24 by InnerVoice 1 Quote
