InnerVoice 1,265 Posted August 12 The Matildas were absolutely brilliant tonight and thoroughly deserve their place in the semis, but blood is thicker than water, it'll be England all the way on Wednesday - c'mon the Lionesses! 1 Australian Citizen since 2007 | Returned to the UK 2008-2011 | Lived in Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns. Goodness knows if you haven't taken out citizenship yet after living most of your life in Australia what is stopping you? I don't understand how some people deliberately move here, spend over half their life here and intend to be here until they die, but still have no passion. Not a criticism but odd all the same. Surely they should feel like an Aussie by now. Edited August 13 by Parley 2 Buy a man eat fish. The Day, Teach Man, to lifetime. - Joe Biden.

You are Scottish and living in another country doesn’t have to change that. I know someone who’s lived in Australia for almost 30 years and has been an Australian citizen for most of that time. Last time I saw them the subject of sports events came up. I asked them who they’d support, England or Australia. Their instant answer was England if it was against Australia. It if wasn’t England then they’d support Australia. They said they love Australia very much but they are English. They were born and raised English and even though as an adult they have chosen to live in a different country it doesn’t make them something else. They respect Australia very much but they are an English person that lives in Australia. I know when I move over I’ll be the same. I will never give up my heritage. My wonderful English parents made me and raised me as did their parents them. I’m English and always will be but I’ll also fully respect any country I live in.

Bobj 10,329 Posted August 13 ''Waltzing Matildas'' for me, but thank heavens there are other tv channels to watch as soccer is so very pedestrian...'Goalie to fullback, fullback to goalie' ad nauseum. Will be watching the NRLW games, all out attack. Cheers, Bobj.

If someone has made their life elsewhere but still expresses passion for the old country, i don't get it. Embrace the new country 100% or go back. Being born and living in a place and still hating it is even worse though. So how about in my case a confusion between wanting Sweden , a most civil country to win the final and England? Australia doesn't get a look in. And no being born in a country and loathing what it has become is not worse. It's honest. Bulya 2,863 Posted August 14 Not that it matters much but unfortunately the poms will go through as they had an easier game. Word is the Aussie girls are very leg sore.
HappyHeart 14,374 Posted August 14 (edited) Not in the slightest bit interested in Soccer but given it’s Australia V England I’m a little bit keen to see the result. I’d be happy with either side being the victors but if I was there I’d be barracking for the Mathilda’s. I dare say a lot of the team will have Pommie heritage. Parley 7,918 Posted August 14 (edited) France were supposed to thump the Aussies too. But that didn't go to script. So wait and see. And don't forget the Aussies comfortably beat the lionesses 2 Nil at wembley only a few months ago. Edited August 14 by Parley Buy a man eat fish. The Day, Teach Man, to lifetime. - Joe Biden. Maybe they're not fit enough? Watched the two previous Lionesses games and they were significantly more physical games than what the Sheila's experienced. Both teams have the same recovery time. Good point, and they will have 80,000 fans behind them so England will really need to bring their A-game. Up until the Colombia match they've been mediocre at best. This Womens World Cup is far removed from boring. The Jamaicans and Nigerians especially being n great to watch. But more to the point. This would be the biggest sport win for Australia since The America's Cup, if they managed to get over the line. Although most unlikely to win .
