Hello UK and Ireland, this is Australia Calling.

    Recommended Posts

G'day folks, I left Nth Ireland 40 years ago and that was under the 10 Pound Assisted Passage Scheme.

Australia is my home, and the home of our children and grand children.

My wife and I have been back to Ireland for a holiday and we also toured England and Scotland, we enjoyed it immensely, but it was a holiday and it was good to return home to The Lucky Country.

I will browse through the Forum and if I can help with any questions, then I will.

    Cheers.

    Hi John

Welcome aboard, since registering I have found this site to be very useful, there is obviously so many questions, queries that need answering before we all fly off to the other side of the world. if only they decided to do the £10.00 system again!!

Where abouts are you in Australia, me and husband are heading to Perth. I notice your occupation is Police Officer, I work as a Probation Service Officer here in England, Criminals - there everywhere! I do hope Perth's crime rate is low? Do you think it would be fairly easy to work in this field. I am sure the systems are alot different.

    Enjoy the site.

G'day Justine, you should not have any trouble continuing in the same job in Perth, it is after all a growth industry.

The Australian legal system and therefore the Courts System is based on the British and you would find no problem.

In so far as cities go, Perth has a relatively low crime rate.

In any case, who knows what you might end up doing, Western Australia Police is on a big recruiting campaign, are you interested? :)

All the best and good luck.

    Cheers.

My partner is a plasterer and I've been told he'll have no probs work wise.

I've got my mum & 3 sisters in Perth so I am a bit luckier than some.......they've got a lot of babysitting to catch up on!!

    Good to hear from you!!

BTW............You don't have a recipe for soda bread by any chance coz I know I'm gonna miss it, especially with the bacon & eggs in it!!???

    G'day Shazaaa, good on you.

I lived around the Ballyhackamore area and I used to work as a part-time Message Boy in Cherry Valley, but that was a long time ago and I don't think that the shops would have Message Boys any more.

Yeah, there will be no problems getting work as a Plasterer.

That is why this immigration push is all happening because of the skilled shortages in Australia.

I'll bet that it will be a great reunion for you when you hit Perth!

Yep, we still get our Soda Bread and Potato Bread and sure we could even rustle you up an Ulster Fry, which would include a few slices of Black Pudding. :)

We have three Grand Children, so we know what this baby sitting lark is all about. :)

    All the very best.

    Cheers.

Hi there, my Working Holiday Visa cost about £80 (paid in AUD and it converted to just under £80). If you go to the immigration website http://www.immi.gov.au there is a fees and charges enquiry you can have a look at (just to confirm that my memory is working properly)

    G'day Teresa,

I did a quick check and here are the results based on what I have been led to believe,

On the Albury side (NSW Police), there is no Coms Centre.

    Albury is controlled from Wagga.

On the Wodonga side, (Victoria Police) Coms comes from Wangaratta and my understanding is that it is soon to be moved from Wangaratta to Ballarat.

Operators are Civ Personel with Police Sergeants as Online Supervisors.

    Hi John,

Many thanks for finding this out for me, much appreciated. I would like to continue in this field of work but obviously will need to see where we relocate and how difficult it is to get into Australia force.

    Thanks

Yes indeed Teresa, it can be done but as you say, it depends on where you are located.

You never know what will turn up, whose's to say that you couldn't get a job say in a local police station as a public servant doing clerical duties + reception etc; and don't forget the other emergency services such as Ambulance and Fire Brigades.

    Good luck.

        Hi

Im from the UK  looking if anyone planning  to go australia on working holiday visa by late 2018 or early 2019.

I am in two mind to go traveling solo plan it all myself or be with travel buddy, or go with them travel group for first couple of weeks, i am hoping  start regional work first so i could be eligible for 2nd WHV and give me more time to  travel spend time there.
        Have couple of question too.
        1. where would be best season to go to find regional work, as i seen on many forums  from nov to jan busy period, where everyone looking for work also most expensive time for getting flights which i am trying not to go for.

        2. Where would you recommend i should start off first, i was thinking to do western australia to do work.

        3. Banking as i will be transferring money before go out there.  as well back and forwards to uk  while in australia which bank would anyone recommend so i not paying fortune on transaction fee on exchange rate. i have seen HSBC which i could open in Australia not pay any fees while transferring money back and forwards to uk will need to double check this.

Any tip or recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks

Hi Lads, I am shortly awaiting outcome of Skill assessment from IPA and planning to submit EOI under External auditor category for 189 visa. I am currently on 70 points (assuming all find in the skill assessment). Can you advise whether accountant were invited at all in the last couple of rounds and if yes, what was the cut-off? Is it worth waiting for bar to come down to 70 or I should re-appear PTE to target 79?

        Thanks million.

        Hi Guys,

I have a PGCEI, from the University of Sunderland, which was basically the same as a regular a PGCE course but the  12 week teaching practice was not done in UK, hence was not given QTS.
I'm considering migrating to Australia and was wondering whether, PGCEI is recognised by AITSL? even though it doesn't have QTS status, its contend is the same and has more than 45 days of supervised teaching.

Has anyone flow to New Zealand after their first year on a working holiday and come back to Oz on a tourist visa? If so how easy is it to do so/ are they strict on letting you back in? My WHV ends at the end of November but my mum and dad are coming for Christmas and new year to visit family so obviously want to be here with them for that.
        1. Can I book return flights from SYD to NZ? Will I get pulled up for not having a valid visa for oz when I enter nz? Obviously I'm applying for that when I get there.
        2. Do I need to get a visitor visa for nz or not? I'm a UK citizen so says online I qualify for visa waiver but other sources say I need a visa for nz if I'm going there to renew a visa for another country?
        Thanks in advance.
