No electricians accepted in Queensland

Hello,

My husband and I are going through our visa currently for PR but just heard Queensland aren’t accepting electricians offshore. Are there any other states that are? He is a specialist class electrician. We were looking at Brisbane but open to other places that are in need! Any help would be great!!

Thank you!

@Lavers How can I search this? When I look it’s states electricians on the list. What website or search can I put in to find which states need what… I’m confused!! 🙁

Just checked the queensland occupation list and it does show your husbands job open for offshore applicants 190 & 491.

@Lavers Our agent who is doing our visa said they aren’t currently accepting so I presume it’s changed and not updated? I’m guessing I’ll just have to wait from them as to where is and how many points we need instead of trying to look myself ☹️

I thought they updated there lists regularly, just check out the other states occupation lists and see how they are looking as back up.

@Lavers Not yet our agent is getting back to us as to where is… 18 months in the making and so close yet still seems so far to finishing to get there!

Not intended to dishearten, but if you haven't yet applied for a visa you still have at least 12 months of a wait ahead of you, and possibly longer.

The easy part is getting to the application, getting pulled out of the queue is more difficult and submitting all the docs and getting them approved before their validity expires (meds and police certs only valid for a year, skills assessment and language certs for 2 years) is where the real waiting kicks in

@Lavers We have applied for our visa. It’s taken us 18 months to get to this part and it’s pretty much the last part. His done the assessment and we’ve done the police checks. It’s now to express our interest. Although specialist classed electrician is still on the list. I think the lady assigned to collect our list little bits isn’t our original lady and hasn’t clicked on we are applying for specialist class electrician not just general. So we are back and forth about that at the minute

Hopefully they can get it sorted ASAP for ya.

@Lavers hopefully! If you don’t mind me asking where abouts are you in Australia?

We are in SA, me,wife and my 3 daughters (1 born here) we came June 2020 and so far so good.

We originally looked at Brisbane but the points for a 189 visa went up so went with a 190 in SA as my job (metal fabricator) wasn't on the QLD list.

Unless I'm missing something you express your interest before applying for the visa. Have you sent any money to the Australian government yet (apart from skills assessment) because if not then you haven't applied yet, just filled out forms for your agent.

I may have read your post incorrectly though, so very possible I'm wrong

Are you still happy in SA or are you still thinking about QLD as you are now over 2 years so you could move as you're over your 2 year commitment to SA?

We are happy here but in another couple of years we may fancy a change.

Winter isn't the best here and seems to drag on, I think because you get a decent summer and get used to the sun it hits you more when it's gone. Still decent compared to the UK though.

Ahhh okay. Not looked there. Yes it’s 80 points to get into now we’ve been told for the 189 now. We could get in on a 491 with the points we have now  but would rather go somewhere else on a 189 visa and then maybe look at making the move after the 2 years but again maybe like you and decided we like where ever we go now! We’ve been confirmed that we can go to QLD as specialist class electrician is on the list but points is now 80

Oh sorry I assumed us getting this far we had started our visa and nearly at the end? We are now at the point to express our interest but prior to us doing so we were told QLD weren’t expecting electricians but the assistant didn’t realise we are going as a specialist class electrician which is still on the list but now found out we need 80 points to get in. So now looking for another state and maybe move to QLD once we are in and done our time before we could move across to QLD in X amount of years

@Phil1712 we are with workingin visas

Make sure the consultant you are talking to is MARA registered.  I see they do have proper MARA registered agents on their staff, but they also have several people who aren't.

It sounds like you may have been dealing with someone junior.  You've paid your money so you're entitled to speak to a properly qualified person directly, especially as the person you're dealing with has made a mistake.

Why are they saying you need 80 points to get in?

Hey Rhian, yeah sadly not the case - you submit the EoI which is basically you saying "yep, we meet all the criteria and this is the visa we want please", you then wait to be invited to apply for the visa, then you actually apply for the visa and pay the money for it. At which point you wait again for it to be granted.

Timescales are all over the place in terms of how long it might take at each stage, some quick, some very long from my observation and of course a big old backlog from recent years. Once you have applied for the visa and paid the money, that's when you join the queue and are working with timescales shown here -

Hope that helps.

That’s what they say the criteria for QLD that you must get 80 points for the 189
