In Australia, is it difficult to get an IT job if I am a dependent of a student?

Recommended Posts

As a software developer having 5 years experience, I will be applying as a dependent of student, my partner is the main applicant. Is it really difficult for me to get an IT job?

There is a big shortage of IT people. Assuming you're good,  I don't think you will have too much of a problem finding work.

Do look at the visa rules for the student as there may be a restriction on hours you can work during term times also

I just want PIO to be a happy place where people are nice to each other and unicorns poop rainbows

Because I've heard that only who has PR  get an IT job, and others survive on non professional jobs, that's the reason I am curious to know

You can get a job in IT without PR, many people do. But check if there is a restriction on hours, and be aware that many government departments (including all Federal Govt) may not be able to employ temporary residents.

I can confirm this is not the case. I arrived in Australia in early 2019 on a temporary / provisional visa. I secured a permanent job in IT immediately. I started a new job a few weeks ago, again a permanent position, that also required a high level of security clearance and I am soon to be on a bridging visa.

In both jobs team members were also on visas that aren't permanent.

That's great! It would be even great if we can have a call on this for 10-15 minutes, I have few similar queries.
