188c First Entry (Austrade Visa)

Hello Everybody.

Been reading a lot of your posts and decided to take the plunge and join even though I am not a pommy - have to confess. My 13 Y.o. is not vaccinated, we are - we need to do the first entry for my 188c (SIV), and we seek a solution where we don't need to isolate him. Due to it being an Austrade application, we can enter any state. Please advise, if you can.

Note- I have done a lot of homework, the problem is that the nuance and language use is of such that you really need to get the inside word on what is accepted practice and when it is due to change where for what state. Theoretically, 188c (SIV) is "Exempt"

Who does not need a travel exemption?

You can enter Australia without applying for a travel exemption if you are in an exempt category. You are in an exempt category and do not need to apply for a travel exemption if you:

• hold a Business Innovation and Investment (subclass 188) visa

Travel has changed since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The latest advice from the Australian Government on COVID-19 is available on the Australian Government website.

International passenger arrival caps are currently in place at Australia’s major international gateways. These caps in most States are now largely focused on unvaccinated arrivals into Australia who are required to go into managed quarantine.

These caps limit the number of passengers international airlines can carry to Australia on each flight. However, exemptions from quarantine and the caps are now available for fully vaccinated travellers including Australian citizens, permanent residents and immediate family members and a range of foreign visa holders entering into New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia.

Visa requirements are federal so you've looked at the correct websites for those. Quarantine requirements are state based. You need to look up the individual state that you are travelling to for what their quarantine rules are.

Thank you, Ken. I have ..well I think I have figured it all out, and I hope to summarize it here a bit later. when I have all my ducks in a row. May I ask your opinion on how the concept of 188c SIV Visa Holders being "Exempt", how that applies, how it works, and what may be potential pitfalls there, or misunderstandings?

It means you do not need to be granted a separate travel exemption by the Commonwealth government before boarding the plane. You will still need to comply with all other requirements including (but not limited to) pre-travel declarations, airline vaccination requirements, state entry/quarantine requirements, any other paperwork required for entry to Australia and any post-entry formalities.

You can all enter Australia without getting additional exemptions.

Some airlines have different requirements for vaccines and tests as do transit countries. So check them.

Currently states have different quarantine requirements . Mostly vaccinated do not have to isolate or quarantine and soon won’t have to take a test on entry from abroad.there are still some isolation requirements for unvaccinated people over 12.  These vary by state and may be reduced in the coming weeks.

When are you travelling?

Hi, thank you - yes - my info is the same as yours, we are traveling in late June 2022 to Brisbane, 2 Vaccinated Adults with two kids, one 9 and the other 13, unvaxxed. The way I read the regulations - Specifically for Queensland - it seems he is regarded as VAxed since he is accompanied by two Fully Vaxxed Adults, so we would not be required to quarantine/isolate him/us, under the current rules as at 14 April 2022, but it may change today, for better or worse- seems it may ease up.
