brianmwlam
I received in-principle approval of specialist registration as a medical practitioner. But was asked to present in person in the next 3 months to provide evidence of residential address in Australia which I don't have. I've heard of people in the past opening bankaccounts online and then fly over, give the bank your lodging address (even AirB&B is fine I heard) and ask them to print out a statement of something, is this what I can do? Many thanks
Cobs_Ahoy
Hi Brian, I had a chat with a recruitment agent a couple of weeks ago about registering with AHPRA, and he told me that due to the pandemic they are being much more lenient with extensions to the present-in-person requirement. However, he did also tell me they were still giving a 6 months time frame to PiP (rather than the usual 3 month timeframe), so I guess either he has some out of date info or they have very recently returned to the shorter timeframe requirement. Either way, it might be worth asking them if you can get an extension if you were looking to move over sooner rather than later.
brianmwlam
Thank you for the reply @Cobs_Ahoy Actually I hope to get it done sooner than later. Not sure how the in-person online check is going to be done. Should I contact them to schedule a date for that myself?
Cobs_Ahoy
I’ve no idea I’m afraid, you are further ahead than me, I’m hopefully submitting my registration application today and was hoping to present in person once out there. My guess though is that you are supposed to contact them when you are onshore (or have a confirmed arrival date) to arrange it. I have emailed AHPRA a couple of times and they’ve always got back to me pretty quickly.
Dave 81
Hi Brian, just wondering what your outcome was for this. My wife is in the same boat, she has in principle AHPRA specialist registration but needs to fly over to do an ID check. AHPRA have told her they can’t schedule an appointment for it until she has emailed them her passport with visa entry details etc (which she wouldn’t get until she lands in the country) . Did it take a while for them to do this for you or was it quick? Thanks.
