Thanks for this recommendation, I did end up ordering one from the UK gov website. It's just arrived and it's a certified copy of the original. ACS do not accept certified copies of original documents for their skills assessments. I've only got the original short birth certificate which is not a valid form of ID. I'm a bit lost on what I can do now.

Are you sure? ACS application guidelines says "Please DO NOT submit: Certified true copies of original document" and right at the top (and bottom) of the birth certificate I ordered it says "Certified to be a true copy of an entry in the certified copy of a register at births..."
