PJA87
Hi, quick question... Looking into visas for a general practitioner doctor who would like to live in Melbourne. Not in a huge rush, just wanting to start the processes but can't work out which visa (189/190?) would be easier/quicker for an offshore applicant and I just want to make sure I'm not missing something. DXW059
Do you have a valid skills assessment (i.e. general medical registration or full GP specialty registration in Australia with AHPRA)? You will need this to apply for either of those visas.
PJA87
Working on it for specialiry; it's a process. What's a best option for a GP (offshore)?
DXW059
Assuming you get a positive skills assessment the 189 is a great option in that you can live anywhere in the country, but you tend to need higher points and the process usually takes longer. You could (at some point) apply for the 190 for Victoria but currently you have to be onshore.
shiveringpom
189 is fine to do yourself if you got skills assessment done/aphra registration done as a GP - we did our own but i already had aphra registration and skills assessment done on prev visas - and you need enough points to make the cut regardless of job .... age/english language skills do affect points etc ..... dont forget 10yr moratorium ruling for overseas doctors which bans you from working in certain areas/city areas Edited October 12, 2021 by shiveringpom
