The show's I've been watching recently include Vigil (Foxtel), War of the Worlds (SBS), The Newsreader (ABC), Traces (ABC) and Question Everything (ABC). I'm a fan of both Shaun Micallef's Mad as Hell and the Weekly with Charlie Pickering but they're not on at the moment. Gruen will be back soon though.

Although I've listed it I'm not actually very impressed with the 2nd series of War of the the Worlds - can't make up my mind if the scriptwriters are idiots or they are trying to subtly demonstrate that what we are seeing is a parallel earth - one which is demonstrably more technically advanced because they've develop insulin that doesn't need refrigeration but demonstrably less technically advanced because they still use bottles and syringes to deliver insulin (something I haven't seen in the last quarter of a century).

We never miss Gruen

The attempts at diversity are nonsense. Only about 5% of the population of Australia (including First Nations people) are black. So technically if you have a cast of 20 and one of them is black that show has appropriate diversity - but if you have a cast of 19 or less and one of them is black then they would be over-represented but if you didn't have any they would be under-represented. How are you supposed to get the balance right? Are you banned from having from two black people on the same show because it doesn't match the statistics?

I did watch the new British bake off in the UK and wondered why there was no wheelchair user

I finished Vigil last night and thought it was ok at best if I’m honest. Be interested in what you think. Must say, whatever you think your worst fear is prepare to change it at the end of episode 5 🙈🙈😲😲😲

We're on the 4th episode tonight.

It's followed the streaming formula.

Interesting parts for women who are always more clever than blokes tick,

Blokes are either mass murders or imbeciles tick,

Gay relationship somewhere tick,

Someone of colour in a high position tick.

If the gay relationship is one person of colour and one white you can save a bit of money.

Oh, then when you've got that in place, think of a storyline.

Vigil is pretty good in that respect, good female leads. The one guy who gets a decent part is the police boss of the two ladies. Unusual for it to be a male boss.

There's a good article in this weekends Australian by Janet Albrechtsen who calls it Feminist Porn.

Just watched the last episode, it was ok, but best I don’t say anything in case I spoil it for others.

It did feel a bit like this. I must admit my first thought was “ another lesbian, really?” 🙈

It was ok and I watched all episodes so was obviously interested enough to that extent.
I did shout out in horror at the end of episode 5 as I said, new worst nightmare. Bit heart pounding but beyond that I don’t know if I cared much about any of them.
Think Martin Compston did well to get a top billing for all he’s been in it. 🙄

I will stop now as others are still to see it.🙂

I’m a bit behind you all.  Still have Vigil to watch and currently part way through click bait.  Reluctant to admit this but I’m currently into married at first sight at the minute.  Also watching Broken.  Love Sean Bean.

I will update you on what I think of Vigil as soon as I can.

Havent watched it yet - is there a mixed marriage in there too, that's usually a necessary tick.

Roared with laughter when I read this, Paul - you're right on the money. I haven't seen Vigil but the last 'Feminist Porn' I watched was just prior to leaving the UK, and the one with a young lass as a world-class assassin who systematically polishes off caddish gammons right, left and centre. In all fairness she was pretty convincing in the part, until a scene where we saw her running as quickly as she could into the bushes. I felt a lot safer after that 😉

Thats about right a large round unpalatable one.

Curiosity got the better of me in the end - so it's her out of Kath & Kim, which surely has to be the most over-rated Australian TV show of all time. I thought it was rubbish when it first came out, and as it popped up on Netflix during lockdown I revisited it to see if maybe I'd missed something... Nope. Just a load of folks squawking at each other for 30 minutes, with the occasional half-arsed gag thrown in. The fact that it was such a big hit here in Australia just goes to show the standard of what's generally on offer.

Finished Vigil last night.

I noted ladies can also run faster then guys now and tackle them to the ground quite easily, where they instantly give up.

They gave the numbers on female/male crew on the sub and it was something like 10 females, 150 males. You would have thought the other way round in all the action scenes.

Did anyone ever watch "top of the lake"?

What a load of crap that was.

I managed about half an episode of that I think. Couldn’t get on with it.

I think it was called Sin City??? Set in Canberra. That was good. Only saw the first series whilst I was in Australia, so over 3 years ago but someone I work with says there’s a second series on Netflix here. It’s called something different in the uk than Oz, so not sure if sin city is the here or there title! 🙈

Sin City Canberra? I wondered what people got up to there. One of the most boring places in Aus I've been and I've been to a lot on work trips.

It was actually quite a good series - statutory transgender, female hero, corrupt politicians etc etc but from a Canberran's point of view it was quite a nice travelogue and I must admit to a smidgen of homesickness as I saw it in UK 2 or 3 years ago.  BTW, Canberra isnt boring just because it doesnt have a beach LOL
