Interstate lockdown travel?

@unzippy you would need to apply for a G2G pass.  I saw travellers from the mainland arriving again this morning to do their 2 weeks quarantine at a motel a few minutes walk from our house.  I think they had arrived on this morning's ferry.  They were all getting off a bus which was escorted by 2 police cars.

Everybody has to apply for a G2G even if they are 'essential travellers'.

I understand the applying bit.  It's the bit on this page:

https://www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/travellers-and-visitors/essential-travellers

With 'essential Traveller' status it can:

  • provide a full or partial exemption from quarantine, for compassionate reasons such as a funeral.

Does that mean in and out day trip only or we can stay longer - both good citizens and double jabbed.

Sorry for your loss.

A couple of my friends in the UK lost loved ones in the last year (not covid-related) and they held the funerals online. It might be an easier option given all the current restrictions.

I lost my mum earlier this year and we included the online service option for extended family/friends.  Before the event we were thinking this is going to be pants as only us children and grandchildren were actually at the service (no choice, maximum 20 were allowed)  Whilst not quite the same as a packed out service,  the online facility was very good and I even have it downloaded as a file.  I think it’s nice to be there if possible but the online facility is a good alternative if not and far better than how you’d imagine it would be.

Does anyone have any experience of travelling interstate (Vic to Tas) whilst locked down, for a funeral?

Tas website says it's doable as an Essential Traveller:

https://www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/travellers-and-visitors/essential-travellers

But does anyone have any real life experience?

So sorry for your loss.  No idea about your ability to travel especially not at the moment but I concur with the others, the streaming of services is now pretty good - I've "been" to 3 funerals in UK this year and they were all very good.  If the service is in a church or crematorium they have excellent broadband facilities.  My dad was a Face Time on my daughter in law's iPhone as he was a woodland burial in the middle of a Cambridgeshire field.

I hope you can get a quick answer from the powers that be!

Have you heard if your G2G application has been successful @unzippy?

Twice unsuccessful 🙁

First attempt was knocked back with instructions saying they needed written invite from the funeral company, including relationship to the deceased and covid safe plan from the funeral venue.  That was obtained and re submitted.  Second knock back - rejected as "coming from Melbourne" (hotspot).

Feels like two different people recived the 2 applications.

Maybe I'll apply, third time lucky🙄

Well that escalated quickly. After the third attempt at applying for an exemption it's been granted.

However there are no flights left tonight and none that get us there in time in the morning.

So we're on the boat!

Hope you have a smooth crossing on the Spirit.

Very smooth thanks.  Sprinted down to Snug and made the funeral with 10 mins to spare - got changed in the Church carpark🤣

Couple of things to note for anyone else travelling to Tas via the Spirit during lockdown:

Melbourne to Devonport you will be confined to the cabin and nothing is open - at least it was like that on the overnight crossing.  Take a picnic.

Devonport to Melbourne, facilities were open, even though there were only 28 of us on the boat!  No picnic needed, even though we brought one🙄

Despite us only staying 3 days we still needed to get covid test on day 3 and wait for a negative test before leaving Tas.  I still don't understand that, I'd have though they would have wanted us gone asap?
We had to extend by one day so that we had time for the results to return.  However that worked out ok, another day with the fam (in quarantine) and the Sunday crossing was $110 cheaper compare to the original Saturday crossing!

Yes, I had an inkling that you would probably have been confined to your cabin.  Were you warned about that beforehand?

Yeah, with via a printed hand out as we boarded...

I was this --> <-- close to stopping at D'Lish Fish (awesome batter and fish, average chips) for tea but we decided to board early!

Bugger.
