citizenship fees

Immigration Minister Alex Hawke on Thursday announced the standard fee for Australian citizenship by conferral will rise by 72 per cent from $285 to $490 from 1 July.

Thought I'd just add that so everyone else who reads this post doesn't need to Google it too 🙂

A big price-hike indeed, but compared to the $2,434 fee (current exchange rate) to become a British citizen it seems like an absolute bargain!

Hi, appreciate some guidance on what the current eligibility is in order to apply for citizenship so I know whether I can apply to avoid fee increase ?

Thanks.

You have to have lived in Australia for 4 years, with at least one year as PR and with no more than a total of one years absence and no more than 90 absence in the year prior to applying.  Or something.  There is a calculator online somewhere.
