Plenty of bogans to go round where I am currently 🙂

Yep I’m sure we’ll do a tour of many parts of the country and see if anywhere suits hopefully

But it wouldn't be OZ without your neighbourhood Bogans. At least in Perth's outer suburbs there's Chavvilles to even things up.  Who knows may even cure home sick English from doing something drastic, like booking a one way ticket back.

I know what you mean. The whole sorry business of real estate has become something of a minefield. So much is simply over inflated and frankly not worth entertaining. That's the reason, I'm being hesitant. We've actually put in a bid at an action and submitted another offer only to have both rejected. Well auction did not reach minimum asking price. Both offers were very substantial amounts. I could buy a small chateau in France for less . I suppose it depends what outrageous price someone is willing to pay for what is after all a roof over one's head.

Have you thought about going regional?

I've lived  many years regional. Nothing too enticing there . Saying that although fully appreciate the limitations , do like the Rainbow Coast area. Sadly house prices have risen considerably and meth drug abuse very high in many towns.

I agree, which is why Melbourne is not the place to be.  You say your parents would much rather visit Perth than Melbourne, but why? If they've never lived in Australia they've got no idea whether it's a nicer place than Brisbane/Adelaide/Newcastle etc. They're just romanticising, maybe because they know one or two people who live there.

It's true there are lots of Brits in Perth, but do consider that Benidorm is full of Brits and you might not want to live there.  Some of the "British" suburbs in Perth have a reputation of being real bogan territory (that's chav to you).

It sounds like you need to visit Perth and book an Airbnb in the suburbs you'd be able to afford, then see if it still works for you.  Maybe it will.

Intelligent post as usual.

Brisbane is more humid, not necessarily hotter. I found I could go for a walk in Bris in what would be a really pleasant temperature here, 30 degrees or so and I'd sweat like anything in Bris. Especially if I took a backpack, T shirt would be wet through.

Horrible weather but Darwin was far, far worse.

First time I’ve heard of the Rainbow Coast…

Give me a chav over a bogan any day, at least we’ll have something in common potentially… football, dropping H’s and T’s, stuff like that.

It's been around awhile. Obviously a marketing tactic to counter the wet and cold weather repetition that Perthites tend to have of the region. Especially the principle town (termed city) of Albany. Reminders of Cornish or Irish coasts for those that know those.

Yep. Get along with chav's better than bogans, likewise closer like you, to my own persona. Although the Cornish chavette two houses up the road yelled out every name under the sun at me after uncovering it was a 'alleged' meth house.

😂  Think I've heard  it all now.  You big chav Blue Flu.  I can't tell a chav from a bogan but I'm sure somebody will enlighten me.

Doubt if the Aussies would differ when referring to Poms as soap dodgers, do you?  A term hardly heard these days. Must be the advent of indoor plumbing in UK.

If you read the 1,000 plus comments From Brits on a well known British paper article about showering you’d think differently.  Points they stood out were the large number in Britain that shower without soap/shampoo.  But the one that really comes to mind was the British businesswoman who travels extensively to the U.S and Australia and couldn’t understand why everybody showers daily.  She thought a bath every 3 days was sufficient…

Chavs are British, bogans are Australian

I know that but I'm waiting for Blue Flu to come up with the difference between a chav and a bogan (or a ned in Scotland).  AFAIK he is Australian but he actually prefers chavs.  😂

It may be that Tasmanian fog that clouds ones vision. But allow me to enlighten. A Chav is purely a term invented by a right wing  tabloid to porn scorn on the working class. It obviously manifested into broader meanings but generally denigrating the working class . A Bogan on the other hand can be a fairly typical Aussie bloke , can be rather well off indeed and live in an expensive suburb, earning good wedge, with all the toys and trappings a English Chav couldn't begin to imagine. More likely probably to have at least been to Bali and not necessary with the bling and more basic cloth sense. Hope that helps a little.....

The poms aren’t the ones with their filth encrusted cracked feet on show all year round. Savages.

Much the same if looked at is more as Poms gone feral after 200 plus years away from the Mother Land.

Eshay would be the australian equivalent of an English chav

Never heard that term before Lavers.  Thanks for that piece of info.  Another to add to my list of culture related words.  👍
