Brits Up Top in OZ

Noticeably there are quite a number of British executive types who have settled well into Aust. life, many of which are represented within both the Australian public service, and into private organisations. Some have made the journey over here to the other side of the world (the nicer side of the world, by the way) in anticipation that they may be able to make a mark. But then there are those that were, well lets say, they were being watched for some time by antipodean eyes, and were ultimately made an offer they could not refuse. Better money and generally a better lifestyle.

As an example, Howard Collins is (was) from Wales and went onto become the Chief Operating Officer of the London Underground rail system. Howard, is now the Chief Operating Officer of ALL Sydney Transport operations including all passenger rail, bus, ferry and all road traffic operations in Sydney and in NSW.

Alan Joyce, from Ireland, became the CEO of Qantas. The list goes on, in many facets of Australian life, and they are most welcome, especially due to the fact that they have made a long term commitment to Australia.

Henry Deane, a Brit, was a railway engineer who built the railways over the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, and then the Trans Australia Railway in the 1870's and beyond. He lived the latter part of his life in Australia. Ironically, when Howard Collins goes to the Office at Transport for NSW every morning, he walks across a space designated as Henry Deane Plaza where Transport for NSW Head Office is situated.  So not much has changed.

All of these people, and many others from Asia, the Americas and other lands came to Australia to make their contribution, or their fortune, but ultimately contributed to the to the nation building of Australia, (as well as making a comfortable living, obviously) along with equally notable Australians . And it continues today. Yes there was money to be made back then and there still is money to be made.

Sticking with the UK however, who are (or were) the other Brits on top in OZ?
