RRV return trip to Oz to activate?

Cots

Recommended Posts

Hello

We have RRVs which are due to expire in August.  We want to take the kids back for a trip before we consider moving back again.

Will a return trip before August activate our visas for a further 5 years?

Many thanks for any help.

Are there any allowances being made for not being able to travel/move because of Covid?

You can move/travel.  It's not easy but it's do-able if you pay the humungous fares.  If you havent moved and have had 5 years to do it, I think you would be on dodgy ground.

You don’t ‘activate’ an RRV. If yours are expiring, you will need to apply for new ones.

As mentioned, eligibility is based on your ties to Australia. If you have lived in Australia for 2 years in the previous 5 before applying, you will get a new 5 year RRV. If not then you will need to demonstrate that you have maintained ‘substantial ties’ to Australia which are of benefit to Australia - this will get you a one year RRV. Either way you need to apply. You can apply from offshore. If you don’t meet the 2 in 5 residence requirement, processing takes around 3 months.

No. You need to apply for another RRV which is far from guaranteed if you’ve been out of the country for a few years. If it’s denied you’ll lose your PR
