HappyHeart 12,137 Posted October 25, 2020 What do we think about modular builds? Pros and cons? Has anyone any experience? Are they much cheaper all things considered?
Marisawright 6,544 Posted October 25, 2020 They're not necessarily cheaper. The big advantage is speed: the house is constructed off-site so it's not at the mercy of weather or site conditions. It's a lot less fuss and more certainty than a traditional build. DukeNinja 268 Posted October 25, 2020 (edited) We looked at them. The issue we found that some banks won’t lend for certain modular types. We went to see the showroom for Hoek homes. They looked ok, but the flimsiness put us off. If we had to build in the future, we would look at container type builds: https://www.containerbuildgroup.com.au/ However they would make sense on a sloping plot at you may not need the usual level of excavation and could use steel stumps. Let us know how you get on. Edited October 25, 2020 by DukeNinja 1 IELTS : 13/08/16: W8 S8 L9 R9. F2w ID Check/Rcvd: 15/08/16, 23/08/16 HCPC/SoR CoGS sent: 23/08/16. Although in saying that you can move Queenslanders to another location now. @HappyHeart have you considered buying a Queenslander and relocating it to your land? I don’t know much about it, there is a company down the road from us that does it. He has around 50 Queenslanders on his property, he buys them does them up and then sells them. Banks don't like newfangled constructions because they can't be bothered doing the research to check whether they're safe or not.
