Raising a Queenslander

Recommended Posts

So we've seen a high-set house, with the ceiling height on the ground floor being only 2.1m (so not legal height). Has anyone raised and built underneath, and is willing to share their experiences? The alternative will be to build at the back, and knock down the old house.

The only issue is the the block falls by 3m over 40m.

Thanks.

We looked at this when we lived in Townsville but I can’t remember the cost involved I have $30,000 in my head just for the re stump and raising, then build costs on top.  In the end we boarded up downstairs it cost us $25,000 we then had the electrician, plumber, painter etc on top. I will see if I can find photos.
‘Unfortunately it was one of my bad ideas because although we had a bathroom down there and a bedroom, we couldn’t legally advertise this fact when we sold the property so we had to say secure storage underneath. It will be the same for you purchasing if it’s advertised as a 4 bedroom house but 2 are downstairs then the valuation should be based on a 2 bed house.

‘When we sold an investor purchased the property and rented out both upstairs and downstairs so obviously it didn’t bother them.

The house was a renovated Queenslander when we bought it. These were before the renovation

The neighbours extended their property by building a deck type of extension, I don’t know the proper names for it.

Thanks TPQ, that's really helpful. We found a cheap 2 bed, that fits the bill for now, but also has potential.

  • Thanks 1

I am the only person who thought this post was going to be about raising children in Queensland?
