Harrybongo
Hi Shopping online and putting in a substantial order for a store from UK. Does anyone please know what the cutoff value is where they start charging you import duty?
Peach
Cut off is zero dollars, but depends on whether the shop decides to charge it. eBay, Amazon and others add the 10% GST to your order at the checkout. Heaven forbid you save a dollar or two in GST on a book.
Marisawright
I’d like to know too. I’ve ordered stuff from overseas and never been charged by customs but have often been told I would be
Peach
It used to be a $1,000, but the Liberals dropped it to zero to help Australian business....
Harrybongo
Thank-you Peach - I had a feeling that was the case from my late night online searching! That's a bummer isn't it! Annoying when there are so many products that are unavailable here or which are low quality. Penalty for being a consumer rabid First Worlder I guess! Maybe with the recently proposed UK Aus trading favoured trading relationship this will be curtailed..... I do have parcels of around $100 come in from US once every few months from i-herb and I'm sure I don't get charged on them. It seems a bit hit and miss to some extent perhaps? Marisa I love your Rainer Maria Rilke quote! Certainly needing to introduce interest and innovation to the homeplace here in Melbourne lockdown! Skani
It varies according to vendor. In general, for orders under $1000, import duty does not have to be paid at the border. However some vendors will collect GST on behalf of the Australian government at the point of sale. Rallyman
Amazon uk won’t ship out to Australia, used to get a few things off there much cheaper.
Guest The Pom Queen
When I’ve ordered from the US they automatically add it on now.
