Maria18
Hi Does anyone know what states/territories are in need of Mental Health Nurses the most? I have been trying to research this and cannot seem to find anything on it. I currently work in a low secure rehabilitation ward for adults age 18-65. I have 2 years experience plus 3 years training, including a selection of 12 placements in a variety of settings, and a degree in mental health nursing. I am just interested to know what locations I would be looking at at this time.

None of the States or Territories have yet received their quotas for 2020-21 due to COVID-19, so at present its impossible to say what skills will be on their lists, Could be several months to wait yet. ali
WA had a lot of their nursing roles 'under review' the last time the lists were published. I work in mental health, it will be difficult to get sponsorship in public health (you could get lucky in private) these days as there are a lot of graduates about. I recently had 60 applicants for a level 1 position.
ali
@Maria18 I found this link https://www.ahpra.gov.au/News/2020-03-27-Changes-to-presenting-in-person-requirements.aspx https://www.ahpra.gov.au/News/COVID-19/Presenting-in-person-outside-of-an-Ahpra-office.aspx Whilst the AHPRA offices are closed, they're allowing the final registrations to be verified by the employer with copies being sent to the AHPRA office. I'm assuming that once open - the present in person may resume. Hope they help
SWMOY04
Hi @Maria18 I've sent you a private message containing 4 jobs I found within 5 minutes of searching. We do have a shortage of (good) mental health nurses in Victoria, mainly down to the way in which nursing is trained here. they only do about 800hrs or so of placements as general nurses and they may get a month or so of mental health placement. So your 2000plus hrs of mental health training hours alone will give you significantly more knowledge than most staff. plus your two years experience as well. (though this is the only experience that counts at visa assessment time) Edited July 26, 2020 by SWMOY04
