just did a check on flight radar (you can filter on aircraft type. it looks like there are only 2 a380s in the sky as at 09:41 AEST. which is really sad. As Eera states both china southern, 1 heading to amsterdam, 1 leaving vancover

I just found out I can do that with Plane Finder.  Never liked them simply because discharging 550-odd people at a time caused huge congestion in immigration; and when you looked out the window all you see is wing.  Super impressed with the A350 though.

I liked the sense of space - particularly if you could get the economy seats upstairs on the Singapore airlines ones. We always found there was always 5 or 6 planes all landing within minutes of each other so queues were just part of it all

two engines good, four engines bad  to paraphrase island of doctor moreau,  380 way too expensive, engineering overhead,  difficult revenue optimisation,  nightmare weight and balance with internal constant fuel calc trim,  same cargo capacity as 744 which means you have to fill it with annoying talking self loading cargo pax,  belly cargo is the sweet 20% bottom line bumper  + infrastructure at airports to manage the beast is mad,  drop two into say fiji or even Adelaide and you're stuffed for 4 hours  🙂

They would have originally assigned the aircraft to the route a long time ago.  Once the flight dates are actually near they'll likely just use whatever is going to be most economical for the numbers booked.  Looking on Plane Finder they are currently using 777s on the DXB-PER route.
