Archimedes Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 It seems like only a few years ago people were being accepted on 189/190s with 65-70 points, but now it's more like 90-95. I am just curious what factors caused the change? Is it just a case that Australia can produce its own "skilled" workers now so do not need to rely on bringing migrants? Sorry to the mods of this should be in a different part of the forum. Quote

Governments are very sensitive to the bad publicity that arises if the public feels they're (a) allowing in migrants only to have them end up on welfare benefits because there are no job vacancies OR (b) allowing migrants in only to have them take jobs from Australians. Paul1Perth Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 I think the points requirements and prefered jobs list changes constantly, depending on who's needed and how much. Quote

Yes - and competition from onshore applicants for permanent has increased as increasing numbers of overseas students in Australia pass through the transition process to PR visas. These guys usually have higher points as they have Aussie education and work experience. Quote
CeriMon Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Influx of applications for certain types of jobs e.g. accounting and the latest introduction of relationship status in visa application (which is like +10 for most people without dependant) Quote
