martyfenwick Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Does anyone know if a Justice of the Peace who hasn’t known you for more than a year can sign a Form 1195 for Australian Citizenship? A JP has agreed to sign my form, however she has signed the form saying she has known me for 0 years. This is true, however I am wondering how strict this really is? Does anyone have any experience of this? Quote
paulhand Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 I think the instructions on the form are pretty clear and given the wide range of people who can sign, I'd be following them. Quote
wrussell Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 They are sometimes not entirely unreasonable if you happen to be less than one year old. Quote
martyfenwick Posted April 1, 2020 Author Posted April 1, 2020 I’ll give them a call at lunch and see what they say. I have a bad feeling I’m going to have to go back to square 1 with this Quote

Paul is right - you need one of the people on the form. This is one of those occasions when a JP won't do, unless they've known you for 2 years. Have you thought about asking your doctor or dentist or someone like that? Edited April 1, 2020 by Marisawright Quote
martyfenwick Posted April 13, 2020 Author Posted April 13, 2020 I made a James Blunt of this, so i'm planning on asking a family friend to sign it. I hope they're ok signing it in the current climate. A JP will not suffice for this (unless they actually know you) Quote
