Impact of Covid-19 on Points

Recommended Posts

Do you think the number of people applying to Australia would decrease over the next few months? ( recession, job losses, delay in doing exams)

and the possibility of Australia increasing the intake to boost the economy, leading to a decrease in the points required to get an invite?

what are your thoughts on this guys?

Oh how we would hope for this. Or at least an intake for those who are onshore, with points in the 80s (maybe?) and who currently have jobs to keep the wheels of the economy moving. Migration will also bring money into their hands as we pay the fees. I know it’s speculation but would be interesting to hear opinions from the RMAs on the ground.

Australia can't look after the existing people here so I can only imagine they would massively reduce immigration. If you're low on points at the moment, I would be very sceptical of any good news coming your way.

Just my opinion of course, but at the moment COVID is making Australia treat temporary visa holders as worthless. Temporary visa holders cannot get state assistance (yet) as all the measures they've announced are for citizens and permanent holders only (plus a few special categories). The Morrison government appears to be trying to make temp visa holders go home as much as possible.

True, but number of applicants would decrease as well.

No they won't.  Every country in the world will be in economic trouble after this.  The more they botched management of the virus, the worse trouble they will be in.  I think Australia will have a flood of even more applications.  However the employment rate is forecast to double, so I'd expect them to cut back on approvals.
