Which shipping company??

Recommended Posts

Having just read reviews on John Masons and PSS, both have had some terrible, recent reviews, now I don't know who to get a quote from with any company.  Our entire life is packed into a container and the thought of our belongings getting damaged, lost etc fills me with dread!!

Yet the 2 companies mentioned also have some excellent reviews!

Havent even enquired about insurance-does anyone have any recommendations please??

Many thanks for any replies. Xx

Get at least three quotes from different companies and tell each one, another company offered less. Most will then start dropping their price.

Also, they will offer insurance, so get a quote from a company that specialises in shipping insurance.

If you mention that you are getting your insurance elsewhere, they will probably match it or better it.

When I moved about 5 years ago, most were a similar price except Crown (more expensive).

You should also check which company they use when it gets to Australia, as some companies don't have their own offices etc. here but use others such as Grace.

Another thing to consider or ask, is where they deliver to for the cost quoted. Some companies will only deliver to a certain distance outside main cities before adding on costs (which may not be explained properly until too late).

As with a lot of things, it is pot luck how the shipping goes. You could use the best company but still have a bad experience or go with the cheapest and it all go brilliantly.

Also, unless you are initially staying with friends or relatives, don't bother shipping over irons, toasters, kettles etc. (unless you've got really expensive fancy ones) as you will need these almost straight away and are relatively inexpensive here anyway (plus you would still need to change the plugs or use adapters).

I think every single shipping company will have positive and negative reviews. I would say PSS and Masons are the two most popular with our members.

Still waiting for the quote, we wasnt told there was a delay due to the CoronaVirus and would assume administration staff would be able to work from home?

Not impressed so far.

Not all companies have the capability to allow staff to work from home.  They would need more than a pen and paper,

We used John Mason but don't think we would use them again ! We were given incorrect information from them and when some of our stuff disappeared this end (oz) they didn't help and left us to sort with Allied Pickfords who are a shower of S##T 🤬

When did you use them?  We found our quotation had a few errors and they won't negotiate price at all, so will be trying PSS at a later date.  Did you have a 20 or 40 container?

We used a move cube with Seven Seas and really couldn't fault them at all. They've made social distancing changes to their practice as our cube arrived in mid virus season and was just a little bit slower than otherwise but we find them to be excellent. I assume they do containers as well.

It's a quite a few years ago for us, but John Masons were superb and the most professional and accurate of those who gave us a quote, building customised packaging for some items.  They used Wridgeways at this end who were also very good (don't know if that's still their partner).  Door to door deliver.  For me, a company's ability to negotiate the price wasn't a big deal (our quotes varied quite markedly from the 3 companies).  At the end of the day, you should go with the one feel most comfortable with.  I agree with Marrissa, all companies are going to have good and bad reviews.

Hi, we used them end of last year, container arrived December. JM profess to be one of the best but I beg to differ. They told us the container they packed in the UK would be the container we unpacked in Oz and only the lock/seal would be changed IF customs checked it, what we received was a completely different container with stuff missing.

We had a 20ft container.

The problem is that I don't think there is any removalist company which can keep control of your container throughout its journey, because none of them are truly global.  They have to hand off the container to sub-contractors, sometimes more than once. So you think you're dealing with JM but by the time it gets to Australia, you're dealing with Chess or Allied or whoever.

That's not the first time I've heard of people's stuff being transferred from one container to another.  I'd love to know what the explanation is - it would be great if you could contact them and demand an explanation and let us know.  It does make it more attractive to send two or even three Movecubes rather than a container (even though that would cost more) if your stuff is important to you.

What about Crown Relo ?

It was a fair few years ago when we used them but the reason we choose them was because its Crown in the Uk and Crown here too, no sub contractors to deal with. We used them twice , sending stuff in shared containers both times and never had any problems with them.

Yeah your right, they should be honest and tell you it may get transferred,  we left loads of stuff in UK so we could squeeze into a 20ft and be safe from losing stuff with a shared container -but how wrong we were.

They (JM) sent an e-mail before delivery saying the dog crate needed to be cleaned $200 or destroyed $100 so we instructed then to destroy it,  then after the container was delivered when some of our goods were found to be missing and I started digging with Allied they sent pictures, in the photos they sent were some of the missing items !! In the pictures you could also see goods from someone else's container ? I asked for the cctv of the container transfer as it should be a secure area when transferred,  they did not have it ! Apparently they could not find any footage....

Looks like its been deleted annoyingly - seems to be some censorship of real feedback and reviews in this forum which is weird as all we are after in here is real customer experiences!

100% advise against using PSS.

Why was it not allowed? it was honest and real feedback that i think members should have a right to know about? If only i had known before i booked not only mine, but my parents 7 bedroom home and entire contents of their 70 years in England, through PSS.

We saw a post on Facebook of a container shipped through PSS that had been damaged in shipping . It had been dropped or another container dropped on top and most of the contents damaged or wet . I realise accidents happen but according to the poster PSS were being very unhelpful and not helping to sort the mess out . It certainly made us steer clear after getting a quote

ADMIN NOTE: I know the full story behind the bad review you left.  You were very happy with PSS until you came to pay the remainder of the bill. Your previous posts also state how happy you were with them. I suggest paying them the money you have outstanding and then you can move on instead of blackmailing them with bad reviews etc.
I have no objection to people saying they wouldn’t use a company again and if you took the time to read through the posts you will see plenty.  However I won’t have a company blackmailed nor will we get involved when legal action is being taken.
